Columbus-Carver

...perhaps Coach Richt should ban all Columbus-Carver players from visiting until Coach McGee apologizes. That would be poetic justice.

I perhaps they'll get the chance to play with Zach Mettenburger someday in the prison yards (or LSU).

I hope it's not her Favorite Things episode, I don't want every other school to have their own Ray Drew at DE.

Dawg Suspended.

If the rumors are true that Washaun was just being a punk with an attitude, I really hope he gets his act together. It's beginning to look like Caleb King was feeding his homework to UGA VIII and we'll need a veteran RB out on the field this Fall.

We're all pumped about Isaiah Crowell getting some carries, but in addition to him Ken Malcolm and Carlton (Banks) Thomas would be our only other options if Caleb flunks and Washaun decides he's more important than the team he plays for. Malcolm is a question mark, Thomas is undersized, and we're looking at a true freshman to be our own Marcus Lattimore. I'm glad to have him, but lets keep the horse before the cart.

Last season I had no faith in our running game. I wanted fresh legs to play because our corp was NOT getting it done. I had high hopes after watching Washaun run all over Georgia Tech in 2009, but he started to buy into his own hype and he's looked like a thug ever since. I hope the new S&C program teaches him some humility and gets him prepared to be a leader for these new guys. Otherwise keeping Ealey around to "mentor" highly touted freshmen is a recipe for disaster.

For Coach Richt's own good, here's hoping for an off-season where our players don't attempt to emerge from any alleys. Go Dawgs!

Ray Drew

A lot has happened in the last month. For one thing, I haven't posted a dadgum thing. Secondly, Georgia dropped a deuce of a game at the Liberty Bowl and Dawg fans were slightly less than sunny toward Coach Richt. Then out of nowhere we start landing huge recruits for the DreamTeam and now people are ready for Coach to turn things around and get UGA back where they SHOULD be.

Today's big recruit started my day off right. Ray Drew's 10am-ish announcement put me in a fantastic mood and the day only got better.

After his announcement he issued the following statement:

"I just want to say, after the end of Jay's (Rome) announcement, I heard your call," said Drew. "Isaiah Crowell, we're waiting on you. Antonio Richardson, we're waiting on you. John Jenkins, we're waiting on you, and Jeoffrey Pagan, we're waiting on you. Come join what we have put together as the Dream Team. But remember, a dream is only a dream, until you make it a reality. I'm calling you out on this one. I hope you're not afraid to be thrown into the fire, I hope you're not afraid to be the ones who make the change."

Immediately turning around and trying to recruit our next biggest targets will get you brownie points, but NOTHING will make the fanbase love you more than if you turn into David Pollack reincarnate.

It'll be good to see the old #47 jerseys in the stands again (another beautiful reason to love college ball...constant turnover of uni-#'s).

But heres a vid of our new Five Star recruit, The Pastor of Disaster, the Minister of Defense, whatever you want to call him...lets hope he pans out and makes the Dawg Nation proud we waited anxiously for his decision.

Signing Day Broadcast

If you weren't aware, GeorgiaDogs.com has a link to their live streaming broadcast of Signing Day 2010.

Its a great set-up.

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Da'Rick Rogers, Volunteer.

From what we are all hearing, Da'Rick Rogers switched commitments from UGA to Tennessee.

Does it suck to lose a great WR prospect? Yes.

Does it suck to lose him to a conference rival? Yes.

Does it suck that said rival is Tennessee? Abso-frickin'-lutely.

But you know what sucks even more? Having a bunch of Georgia fans (the term "fan" used loosely) harassing the kid for his decision via Twitter, Facebook, etc...

We wanted him, we didn't get him, water under the bridge. You burn furniture when your head coach skips town, not when a 17 year old boy doesn't want to be on your football team.

Da'Rick doesn't have to worry about sports writers, UGA bloggers, or Georgia fans in general...and he sure as hell doesn't have to worry about what douchebags like Jeffrey Johnson think of him.

The only people Da'Rick Rogers has to worry about crossing paths with are this guy now...

...and this guy later.

Save your worries for the Fall. Tomorrow is about celebrating who wants to be a part of our program. Good luck to the kids signing with their respective teams tomorrow, and may the best team win.

Go Dawgs!

Jeff Whitaker Announcing Today

I know Signing Day is a couple days away, but unless I'm mistaken, Warner-Robins' defensive lineman Jeff Whitaker will be announcing his decision today.

Apparently this kid could be the future of CTG's D-Line at nose tackle. We're in the running with OurBarn and Miami, but I see this as being the first big splash for our defense and a recruiting victory for Grantham if he chooses UGA.

Here's his bio per Rivals...

Why I like our chances:
I like the placement of the "official visit", we came after Auburn, and before Miami. That puts forward the perfect scenario of going from Auburn (beyond Thunderdome) to Athens (indoor plumbing + electricity + 5 Star Day Cafe) to Miami (rampant gun-violence and Scarface scenarios).

Plus the kids from in-state and appears to have a good head on his shoulders.

Why he might not sign:
Per David Hale's post, Mr. Whitaker is quoted as saying:
"The thing I tell people all the time is that Georgia will be great with me or without me. It’s a great football program, and they have a great coaching staff."

...of course this was made last week and he might not have been trying to appear biased one way or the other. I like the kid, I want him as a Dawg and whomever he signs with will have a heckuva player.

UPDATE:
AJC is reporting a 2PM announcement. They are assuming he's leaning Auburn...we'll see.

...no Georgia, I will not quit blogging and come play defense for you.

Per Paul Westerdawg's twitter account:

"Robey is ~5'7" and 160 lbs. Smaller than Mikey Henderson. The idea that he'd play defense for us was idiotic. Problem solved."

This is regarding the statement from Frostproof High School's AD that Nickell Robey probably ain't coming to Georgia.

Though the article puts Robey at 5'8" 175 lbs, I'm more inclined to believe these details are inflated a bit and Paul is closer to being right. Why do I feel the need to post about this? Well, if Mr. Westerdawg is correct UGA just lost a DEFENSIVE RECRUIT of Willie Martinez which weighs as much as I do AND is 9" shorter than me!

Care to visually put this into perspective?

A (presumably) faster, shorter, and less patriotic version of this character would have been running around in your secondary next year.

THANK YOU, COACH GRANTHAM...THANK YOU!

UPDATE...yes, that quickly.
Ally states Robey is saying his coach is wrong and might still honor his verbal to Georgia. That being said, I'm keeping the picture up because I like the way the running shorts accentuate my leg-definition (or lack there-of).

A Sunday Dilemma

So today our next DC takes his boys onto the field to play the Vikings in a divisional playoff game.

What do I want? I want my defensive coordinator in Athens recruiting, and I wanted it yesterday. But my Sunday dilemma is:

Which is better? Having your DC there in person recruiting kids OR having coach Richt and Rodney Garner apologizing Coach Grantham can't be there because he's out winning Super Bowl rings? (lets not forget, Garner's a heck of a recruiter himself)

Don't get me wrong, I think it'd be great to have our staff in Athens rounding up assistants and recruits. But you gotta admit, showing up to a kid's house with a huge rock on your finger pretty much dispels any rumor that your not committed to getting the best out of them. Just something to think about.
Oh hello, 5 star recruit. Would you like to come to Athens? Yes? Good.

Hutson Mason Choo-Choo-Chooses the Dawgs.

What do Tim Tebow and any Josh Nesbitt have in common? ...they'll never be on the receiving end of any compliment remotely similar to this one.

per the AJ-sizzle:

The best comment that I ever heard was what [Detroit Lions coach] Jim Schwartz said about Matthew Stafford,” Mason said. “He said he was the most prepared rookie he had ever seen in his 30 years of coaching. He came in and ran an NFL offense right out of college with no problem. That says much about Mike Bobo and how he can develop quarterbacks as it does about Stafford.”

It's a great day to be a Dawg, we look forward to seeing you in red & black, Mr. Mason.

Quick Update

The Yahoo! Sports Minute says Georgia is still in the running for QB Nick Montana. Among the other schools competing for Joe's spawn are:

-Alabama
-LSU
-Ohio State
-Notre Dame
-Some gay school
-Some other gay school

(...wait I think I listed Ohio State twice. BOOM! Roasted.)

I still don't think he'll be in Athens due to the young competition he'd have for playing time. I'm assuming Notre Dame will be his pick because the timing would be right once the Clau-hammer wraps up his stay. Plus I heard his father was fond of the Irish.

Still no word on where Joe's daughter, Hannah will be attending.

Why Nick Montana Won't Be Wearing Red & Black

Unless you've been living under a rock you've heard the big news over the weekend. Nick and his father, Joe were in Athens scoping out the Classic City for the 2010 recruit. As incredibly awesome as the publicity of having Joe Montana's son be a Dawg would be...it ain't gonna happen.

Here's why.

We are deep in 2009 QBs...2 deep. Unless this kid is a rare example of patience shown in celebrity children, he'll be looking for field time right out of the gate. Aaron Murray and Zach Attack-Mettenberger are our two freshman stallions right now and either one could potentially stay 4-5 years (barring early drafts...but surely not both would leave early). Though it's a fact Nick doesn't mind competing for his position, he already went head to head with Wayne Gretzky's boy for snaps in high school. It's rumored Trevor Gretzky's dad lost a fortune betting on his son winning the position battle (If I make up rumors, you hear it here first).

Also, ESPN has a pretty rough breakdown of his weaknesses...

He possesses the mechanics to throw when off balance and just enough strength to get the ball where it needs to be, but he does not have an elite arm. If Montana's feet are not set or he is unsettled, he is not the same player in terms of accuracy and production. To get the most out of his arm, he must utilize his entire body and be mechanically sound. At times if pressured he will look flustered and lose zip and confidence in where he's going with the ball. As with Jimmy Clausen in 2007 who attended the same school we are concerned about the overall level of competition he faces each week. Overall, Montana is going to be a player that needs to be in the weightroom and add strength and bulk not only for arm strength improvements, but for durability as well. He has a late bloomers frame and the tools to really develop into a sound, competitive prospect at the next level. Best football is definitely down the road.

...the two words that should scare you, Jimmy Clausen.
Look this douche-nozzle in the frosted tips and tell me it ain't a complement.

Anyway, if Nick wants to be a Dawg he's gonna have to earn his starting time. Matthew Stafford had to prove his worth before he got his first start against UAB his Freshman year. Biggest difference? Nick isn't competing with Joe T-3 and Blake Barnes, we've got 2 of 2009's finest QBs ready to piss in the new kid's Powerade.

So, I think it'd be awesome to have Nick in Athens, but I doubt the atmosphere will overtake his desire for facetime landing him at Georgia. Sorry to start your Monday out on a sour note, but this dose of reality can't be any worse than...this news.

...oh Vince, I thought you were different.
(Camera guy, you gettin' this?)

FUN FACT:
Not only did Nick Montana compete against Wayne Gretzky's son, but they were throwing passes to Trey Smith...Mr. Wild Wild West's offspring. Coming soon to the Disney Channel, Celebrity Highschool Musical.

He's a Ford Truck Man.

We've all seen Coach Richt's Ford F-150 commercial. He touts:

-Sweat feeding the soul
-Mental & physical toughness
-Success on and off the field
-Outworking the competition
-Hooking up with the watergirl
-Georgia Saturdays being built Ford tough

Apparently, Newnan recruit Alec Ogletree got to experience this first-hand. Last weekend Coach Richt gave him a ride from the weightroom to practice during Junior Day in his truck. He talked to Alec about staying close to God, living life to the fullest, playing in-state where his family could come watch him play and how he wanted nothing but the best for Alec. What a classy guy.

Whos got 2 thumbs and has to use seatcovers so the charisma don't stank up his leather upholstery?

But what really interests me in this story is Alec Ogletree's top choice right now is...Miami?!?! It's not surprising because Miami is a crap hole, it's surprising because he HASN'T EVEN BEEN THERE. I think if this guy is used to the suburban nightlife of the best Newnan, GA has to offer...Miami would eat him alive. I think it'll only take witnessing a couple drive-bys, a few bad drug deals, and catching a bad case of Feugo Cubano from the local mistresses in order to send this kid packing back north to Georgia. Randy Shannon, I'm sure you will show this kid Miami's finest.

"You know Alec, Larry wasn't the only one they called Coker."

"Do you know what a hassa is, Alec?!?"

Of course I've never actually been to Miami either. But I assume it's alot like the movie Scarface...still. Overrun by Cuban gangsters, out of control coccaine usage, discos, and gunfights in broad daylight. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway I've said it before, I think the city of Athens is one of our greatest recruitment assests. We've got churches for the straightlaced kids and Toppers for the wild ones. If you want trouble you can find it, but it's not running rampant throughout the college town.

So hopefully Alec gets his visits in and comes back to UGA. This is out of Coach's hands now but the personal time riding in his truck couldn't have done anything but help. Rumor has it Paul Johnson is taking the same approach to landing his bounty of 2 and 3 star recruits for 2010.

Hurry boy! We gotta get over to the Varsity before the Nursing Students herd that way!

Happy Friday, Suckers!

Thank God for Photoshop...without it I'm nothing.

EXCELSIOR!

Dear Head:

SUCK IT!

Love,
-Heart

Orson's a Dawg!

If we win a National Championship in the next few years I can't think of anyone else I'd rather have knock it over and shatter the blasted thing into a million pieces.

Mackie's Bodypart Roundtable:

Welcome to the bodypart roundtable for a discussion on Plant High School TE, Orson Charles. Head, you start us off.

Mackie's Head:
Orson Charles will be in Southern California getting more play than a stripper at a Duke Lacrosse party. Between the weather, the beaches, the loose hedonistic women, and the coolest headcoach on Twitter, Charles will be (and wear) a Trojan. Pete Carroll pillaged a #7 jersey and scribbled Charles on the back of it with a Sharpie. The kids going to USC, get over it Heart you still got a great '09 class.

Mackie's Heart:
I beg to differ, Head. If you haven't noticed all the reports from the AJC the kids a good Christian and is praying over his decision with his family. With a classy head coach like Mark Richt who is value-oriented the two personalities line up and everyone who purchased a Matthew Stafford jersey will be able to wear it a few more years as UGA welcomes a new Tight End. Also, 2006 called they want their reference to Duke Lacrosse back.

Mackie's Head:
Charles is playing you for a fool. He told the LA News he was praying to David Lee Roth's hot-pink headband over the decision. I'm sure he spoke with the Knoxville paper regarding his college choice and made them aware he was praying to a tube of Fixodent. He's playing the locals by making them think he's their kind of guy and praying to what's important to them.

Mackie's Heart:
Well, that may be true because I haven't verified. But I think he's a good kid and Athens, GA would be a great fit for him. Not to mention his highschool QB whom he is good friends would still be his QB as a Dawg.

Mackie's Head:
...you're naive.

Mackie's Heart:
Well, you're excessively critical, skeptical, and lack faith...just like the entire state of California.

Mackie's Rectum*:
I think Knoxville would be a gre...

Heart & Head:
Shut-up Rectum, he's not going to Knoxville.

Mackie's Rectum:
Why not? Knoxville's a great place(...ppppprrrrrrrrrrrrtt) it's got a great marble quarry, excellent women's basketball, that awesome looking gold ball building from the 1982 World's Fair, (...pppprrrrrrrrrrrrrrrtttt) what's not to love!?!

Mackie's Head:
Ugh, Rectum that f#$%'in stinks man!

Mackie's Heart:
I'm glad I'm not near a nose.

AND SCENE!

See poll to the top right.

*damn near killed 'em!

D-Day for Orson

By the time you make your afternoon commute back home, we'll know if Orson Charles will be our future Tight End (not me, I'm hangin' a bird at The Man and Crip walkin' out the door at 1:00pm).

Thanks Pimpmywalk.com!!!

Regardless of where he commits, I wish nothing but the best for Orson as long as he goes to UGA...

Also, where the normal human mind might associate the name "Orson" with such famous people as Orson Wells, where I differ is I never got past associating him with Orson the Pig from U.S.Acres...go figure.

Happy Friday, suckers.

A good start

The AJC is reporting Plant TE, Orson Charles eliminated The University of Florida from his list of schools.

This is good because many thought he was leaning toward UF. This is bad because Tennessee is still in the running meaning if he becomes a Vol Lane Kiffin will stick his tongue out at us.

Best possible scenario he becomes a Dawg, second best he goes to So.Cal. and has the option to lose 1 game per year to either Stanford, Cal, or Oregon Polytechnic State Community College. At least at UGA he'll have the satisfaction of losing a game against someone with Jesus on their side...

That person?

...Gene Chizik.

Who else were you expecting? Tebow?!? ...please.

Question

I could be pulling this out of my rectum, but for some reason I thought I remembered hearing Orson Charles would be announcing Wednesday the following week of National Signing Day.

...which would be today.

Am I out in left field on this?

Stephen Hill

Stephen Hill has already committed to Tech twice. But the fact he is STILL wavering between UGA and Tech is hilarious to me. At this point I don't really care if this kid is a star receiver or a star waterboy, I just want him to come to UGA for the simple pleasure of knowing we stole someone Tech was excited about (and then watch them badmouth him for the next 4 years). I'm not banking on Hill becoming a Bulldog, especially without an official visit, but we should have an answer sometime today and last I checked we could use some more depth at WR.

Also, I was a little disappointed by Greg Reid's decision last night, but I guess it really came down to which team he felt best about losing to Florida with.

...looks like pessimism won out on that last statement. ouch.

UPDATE:
Looks like he's sticking with the Nerds. I'm not heartbroken losing a 3 star recruit, especially when we penned Rantavious Wooten this morning.

A Good Thing About College Football...

Unless your name is F. Sinkwich, C. Trippi, T. Sappp, or H. Walker you won't have your name printed on the back of a jersey.

Coach Richt has saved #24 for Greg Reid whatever he decides tomorrow night. He has also committed #7 to Orson Charles should he sign with the Dawgs.

If these guys pan out to be all they are built up to be it looks like your Moreno and Stafford jersey will get a few more relevant years of use.

Unfortunately all of David Pollack's supporters a few years back get mistaken for HUGE fans of tight end Trenton Turner.
