QB Trickshot Vid

Your move, Aaron Murray. (I think he should film his video set to the music of The Clash's "Straight to Hell" as a rebuttal to M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" sampling)

Thanks, Dr. Saturday.

A Question Raised

What makes Get the Picture one of the best Georgia blogs out there, is the fact that it's still technically football off-season and the article I read 2 days ago is already bumped to Older Posts on the next page...dayyyuuuuuuum.

But I was reading through this post the other day and contemplated writing something and just now got to it (...way to show initiative, Mackie).

The Senator covers some of Mike Bobo's comments regarding our lack of depth at QB. And at the conclusion of his post Blutarsky states:

"Sure would be nice if ULaLa were a thirty-point blowout with the bench getting emptied in the third quarter."

So that got me thinking, Aaron Murray is our starting QB without any NCAA career starts. We are opening up against a cupcake, so here's your hypothetical...

If we are blowing out the Ragin' Cajuns in the 3rd quarter, should we use that time to get Hutson Mason some snaps? I'm not overly concerned about the back-up QB situation, but GOD FORBID anything happen to Logan Gray as a wide receiver AND Murray bites the dust, our hopes & dreams rest on the laurels of a true freshman.
...but let it be known, he was a state record-setting, Tire Swing All-American.

So you guys play coach. Vote in the poll, top right. Keep in mind South Carolina is the following week, that's when $#!% gets REAL!

OMG WTF IZ ON A-MURRZ HAYUND!?!?

...welcome to spring football news in the South.

Perhaps we should check with new QB's Coach Papadapolis for an explanation.

Joe Cox's 5 Touchdowns

I ripped this off from The Senator's page, but I thought it was worth repeating...

Joe Cox was doing his best Matthew Stafford impression last night, it could have used more kegs and spooning, but overall I give it a 9 out of 10.

Great game, Joe...let's keep this offense rolling.

Quick Update

The Yahoo! Sports Minute says Georgia is still in the running for QB Nick Montana. Among the other schools competing for Joe's spawn are:

-Alabama
-LSU
-Ohio State
-Notre Dame
-Some gay school
-Some other gay school

(...wait I think I listed Ohio State twice. BOOM! Roasted.)

I still don't think he'll be in Athens due to the young competition he'd have for playing time. I'm assuming Notre Dame will be his pick because the timing would be right once the Clau-hammer wraps up his stay. Plus I heard his father was fond of the Irish.

Still no word on where Joe's daughter, Hannah will be attending.

Hey, you wanna meet a rich guy?

If you are in the Marietta Square area Saturday June 6th, swing by BP Sports Collectibles for a chance to meet this guy...

You can find info from BP's website.

The most badass thing I could think of for Matthew Stafford to autograph?

...I'm sure Tom Condon will be cool with this, right?

I'd like him to sign it and then have my picture taken with him as he holds it over his head.

Stafford on Late Night

So I watched an episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon the other day on HULU. From a guy who thought the only funny thing Jimmy Fallon ever did on SNL was laugh out of character during skits, I can't say my opinion has changed much. The show was borderline unwatchable but the opening monologue still went over better than the time I dropped the phrase "sweaty Italians" at Maggianos.

Anyway, #7 will be on tomorrow morning at 12:35am (though many refer to this as Thursday night). If you're interested I would definitely DVR it so you don't have to sit through more than your daily allotment of un-funny stuff. After all, I know BloggingPantsless takes up most of the allowance.

Week in review

Well, I'm back at work after spending part of the week in Helen with my inlaws. Aside from 3 screaming babies (age 1,2, and 3) crying at 2am and 6am...it was a pretty nice trip. We did a lot of gay little kid activities like take pictures, petting zoo, and Babyland General (in Cleveland, GA where Cabbage Patch Kids are born) but it was fun to see incoherent little kids attempting to be amused by grown adults who should know better.

Without a doubt the highlight of the trip was the time spent with my wife making smartass comments about anything and everything to each other. I think I'm a pretty funny guy, but my wife's wit is so sharp it will cut you faster than SUR 13. We had a blast being the only people without kids...because it's really for the best.

HIGHLIGHT MOMENT OF THE WEEK:
At Babyland General we were able to see the miracle of life take place...under the magic crystal tree.

...this picture is either new or 20 years old, because Babyland hasn't been updated in a while.

We were told all about the birth we witnessed including the dilation of the cabbage and how fairies sprinkle magic dust over the cabbage patch to make either the babies either boys or girls! As the Cabbage Patch Kid was born they ask the audience to raise their hand if they've got a name for the child, so I raised my hand. Unfortunately they picked some little girl who suggested some trailor-trash name like Skylar or Crystal.

I was going to offer up the names my wife and I have decided for our first child, Herschel Munson Alicious if it's a boy, or Dooleyanne Belue Alicious if it was a girl. Feeling a little irritated due to the slight, this is when I asked my wife if all the aborted babies get sold off to Boarshead...

...who doesn't like a good abortion joke to kickstart their weekend?!?

But anyway we're back and starting work again. It was good to hear Matthew Stafford put on a laser show rivalling Stone Mountain at Pro Day. Completing 45 of 50 is a good sign you're able to connect to your receivers. Hopefully that translates well in Detroit where Calvin Johnson might be your only hope for completions...if the O-Line gives you enough time. Otherwise on Thanksgiving we'll be watching our boy take more shots to the face than Tebow at Pridefest.

Anyway, happy Friday, suckers.

Enjoy the weekend.

Did you hear Tupac died?

As I make my rounds about the UGA blogs I notice I've missed the bus on the David Hale article regarding QB quotes. So since this is officially old news, here's my 2 cents.

- I feel like I'm married to Aaron Murray with quotes like this concerning his roomates Zach Mettenberger and Dallas Lee
“They never clean up their dishes,” Murray said. “I hate walking in and dishes and trash everywhere. I’m a real neat freak, so I’m always cleaning up after him, doing the dishes, going in the bathroom and cleaning up.”

- Zach Mettenberger isn't trying to make friends with the recent class of NFL draftees with quotes like this...
"Last year I was around a lot, and the leadership wasn’t too great last year."

I'd tell you if I think he's wrong, but in hindsight I think he hit the nail on the head. My only concern would be this coming across as the new kid outta highschool thinking he can come in and start calling people out.

Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!

I was looking at YouTube for footage of Arizona St. QB Rudy Carpenter and stumbled across the last few minutes of the movie Rudy which stars that kid that played Brian Reynolds in the made for TV movie Please Don't Hit Me, Mom. Anyway, that movie is still as entertaining today as it was the first time I saw it. Why? #1. Tech gets beat. #2. Some garbage about personal triumph, believing in yourself, following your dreams, and all that other feel-good liberal hippie crap!

But all that aside I also did some looking into Arizona State's loss to UNLV last week. I don't know if that sucked more for them or for us as we realized we would yet again be playing a previously ranked opponent who bit the dust before we're scheduled to play them. Which makes it a lose/lose for UGA if Arizona St. plays us close and we barely win again, I can just hear Mark May now...

"Georgia might be the most overrated team ranked in the Top 10 because they've barely squeaked by two unranked opponents in a row who lost games to lesser squads. Now Dr. Lou if you'll excuse me I need to run to the little girl's room (grabs purse stuffed full of Playtex Heavy Flows and exits stage-right)."

Either way, Rudy Carpenter was being hailed as the 2nd best QB in the Pac-10 because of his "experience as a veteran" being that he is a 5th year senior and everything. Let it be known Reggie Ball was also a "seasoned vet" his last years of play and that experience doesn't compensate for lack of talent.

I didn't watch the end of Arizona State/UNLV because I was driving through Bumblefrick, South Carolina looking for $5/gas to make it home. But it says right cha' that the Sun Devil's final OT possession consisted of the following...

1st & 2nd Downs: Dimitri Nance has 2 carries for 7 yard.

3rd Down: Carpenter overthrows TE Jovon Williams in the endzone.

4th Down: Kicker ruins chances of ever getting laid as an undergrad at Arizona St.

(UNLV Celebrates, Dennis Ericson books trip to Arkansas assuming there will be an opening soon).

Carpenter might be worried the playcalling was too conservative for overtime play, but the question it doesn't answer is how they let UNLV tie up the game to force overtime to begin with.

Are you familiar with the phrase, "Luck is where preparation meets opportunity."?

For those still worried about our Pass Defense, whether you like it or not, our defense was prepared to take advantage of mistakes made by South Carolina's offense last weekend. Yeah it sucked watching 2 consecutive drives headed toward our endzone but if the aforementioned saying holds true at least our guys are able to recognize mistakes and take advantage of them. Rennie Curran can recognize an exposed football trying to reach into the endzone (albiet from 4 yards away) and knows it's time to punch the fire outta that ball to knock it loose. Our drop 8 defensive scheme was still smart enough to see Chris Smelley's eyes get big as he thought of throwing it into the endzone (resulting in a game-saving pick with seconds left).

It is apparent Arizona won't be able to run the ball either from incompetence or our stellar Run Defense. Also unless we relapse into last weeks mindset our offense should EASILY run wild over the Sun Devil's couch-cushion fortress they call a defense. In my eyes it's shaping up like this, we have a competent offense and a defense that has ALOT to prove next Saturday. Arizona State's only option will be to throw the ball and hope it lands where Rudy directs it...that's it. They gave up 23 points to UNLV against their first-string defense.

Advantage Dawgs, bottom line.

CORRECTION:
Last night I actually finished watching the UGA/USC game and it turns out the Gamecock player wasn't trying to reach the ball into the endzone like I thought I'd seen in person. Rennie actually just plowed into the guy and it knocked the ball loose. When I saw the guy reaching out trying to grab the loose ball, that's what I assumed was him trying to stretch it into the endzone...my bad.

The 'Cock Quarterback Conundrum

Spurrier is obviously playing coy going into this game. He's getting freshman quarterback Stephen Garcia more snaps in practice...but still sharing time with Sophomore Chris Smelley.

So I did some looking and found something pretty interesting.

Though it is likely it will either be Chris Smelley or Tommy Beecher starting, there is a chance Spurrier would surprise Willy with Stephen Garcia. But that's not all; there is an even smaller chance Steve bursts out any one of the SEVEN quarterbacks he has on his roster.

Whom are:

#5 Stephen Carcia (Fr)
#6 Tommy Beecher (Jr)
#7 Chris Smelley (So)
#13 Aramis Hillary (Fr)
#14 Reid McCollum (Fr)
#16 Michael McQueeney (Fr)
#17 Zac Brindise (Fr)

Obviously the OBC hasn't found his golden ticket to the proverbial Wonka Factory we know as the SEC Championship that's why he's loaded up his plate with Freshmen.

I imagine Saturday afternoon I'll be sitting in a stadium with 80K Veruca Salts.

Of course this is all speculation, I doubt our defense sees more than two QBs in Columbia. But isn't it a great feeling to know your coach has it all figured out. On the other side of the field we'll have 5 QBs who could potentially go out and "win one for the Gipper" if for some reason our depth behind center gets decimated.

Just in case you were wondering they are:

#6 Logan "Don't call me a punt returner" Gray (Fr)
#7 Matthew "Dreamboat" Stafford (Jr)
#14 Joe "Don't call me a ginger" Cox (Jr)
#15 Jonathan "who?" Batson (So)
#17 Jonathan "the other Jonathan...no #17" deLaureal (So)

Of course if none of our QBs decide to make their millions a year early (following this season) we also will be at the total of 7 QBs, it's just that ours will include...
2-Freshmen Stallions
1-Very Fast Sophomore
2-Relatively Unknown Juniors
2-Quality Seniors capable of recreating CMR's playbook with Knowshon's Lego sets.

...those are two night & day football programs.
