Falcons Poll Results

The results are in, and it looks like I've got a plan now for the upcoming NFL season. As I posted earlier, I know little to nothing about professional football, but this year I'm willing to put forth effort in becoming a fan of the Falcons.

I committed to watching 3 Falcons games in their entirety this season, and you guys got to vote and pick which ones I WILL NOT MISS. You were able to select multiple opponents, and here are the teams you voted for:
87% of voters picked the Saints once.


46% of voters picked the Carolina Panthers once.

There was a tie for the 3rd and final spot with a 43% split between the Packers and the Eagles. But since I really like the Packers logo, and I despise everything about Philadelphia I figured it would be best if I gave the Eagles the last spot.


...because if you're going to cheer against a team, it might as well be a team from a city you hate.

But thanks for the help, I really don't know what to expect out of NFL football but hopefully I won't hate it too much. Go Falcons! WOOF WOOF WOOF!

The World's Worst Falcons Fan

That is the title I give myself. I know little to nothing about our team except that DJ Shockley is no longer employed by the organization and that is some UNEXCUSABLE BULL$#*+!!!

But seriously I've only attended 1 Falcons game in my lifetime of living in the metro-Atlanta area. I might have been 6 years old but I could be wrong on that, all I remember is someone spilled a beer on my sister and my father (who is a church minister) was FURIOUS! Unfortunately I doubt that was my sister's only encounter with alcohol in her lifetime. She being a huge Tech fan I'll assume drinking is what helped get her through the last 10 years...but I digress.

Back to topic, I wanted to make a commitment this year to watch more NFL football, primarily in my hometown market. After looking up their schedule I discovered the Falcons play 16 regular season football games. Therefore, I'm making a commitment to sit down and watch 3 Falcons games in their entirety this year. I know dedicating myself to less than 1/5 of a season is pretty underwhelming, but that's just the MINIMUM games I'm going to watch. I'd love to catch more, but I will watch NO LESS than the 3 best match-ups as voted by you. My wife would know best, that's a huge commitment for me.

But I'll need a little help from Falcons fans. Somebody has to instruct me about which games I should catch. Were a person to come to me and say "I want to watch 3 Georgia games this year, which ones should I catch?" my answer would be Florida, Auburn, and Tech (but the hammer-lock we're gonna put on Tennessee would be a SUPER-close 4th). The Falcon's schedule is posted top-right, vote so I have some good games to watch!

Also, please don't vote for a team just because former Bulldogs play for them. I love MoMass as much as the next guy but if the Browns are still the bums I assume they are then they probably shouldn't make the cut.

Baseball Returns to Atlanta

Yes, it's still technically a Spring Training game, but to pro's are back in town.

The Braves are back at Turner Field and tonight we're taking on the Chicago White Stockings.


The game is at 7:05pm and tickets are starting at $5. If you're bored and feel like going downtown to cheer on the hometeam, you can't beat that deal. Also, it gives you a chance to see former Bulldog Gordon Beckham (who is the most talented $400,000 player on the White Sox Roster).

I'm gonna keep this short and sweet, but I could use a little help from anyone who knows a lot about the NFL.

Since we successfully got raises and contracts for every DC in college football, the rumor mill (running 24/7, open on Christmas) has turned it's eyes to the ranks of professional football.

Here is where I need some assistance.

Lotta folks throwing around the name, Travis Jones. If you are unaware Mr. Jones is the D-Line coach of the New Orleans Saints. (picture found on Leather Helmet Blog who is doing a fine job following this ordeal)

Now let me first say, I think the position of Defensive Coordinator at a top-tier program like Georgia, is a GREAT job any coach worth his weight would love to have. But what I don't get is why an NFL coach who's team went 13-3, finished 1st in their division, and has already worked his way up to NFL money through the SEC ranks (Jones was a GA at Georgia and Line Coach at LSU) would move back down to the collegiate ranks?

Unless I'm mistaken, usually the money is better in the pros, right?!? I understand loyalty (he's a Bulldog, ftr) but maybe I'm used to thinking the only people who go back to the NCAA level are the NFL stinkers...


And who could forget, failure's poster boy...


Let me know if there are any successful NFL guys who returned to college football, because I can't think of any. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Travis Jones back at Georgia...but just like all rumors, without any legs they're just flopping around on the floor.

Single White Fan Blog

I will readily admit, I'm not the best NFL fan. I have my reasons as to why I don't follow the Pros, but really I find college ball to be way more interesting (mainly due to the turnover of its athletes). I'll pull for the Falcons because they're the home team and I think Matt Ryan is a pretty good person, but if they lose it won't ruin my weekend the way a Bulldog loss will.

So technically I have my affiliated NFL team...but what about those in neutral states? My wife went to the University of Alabama (bless her heart) and she had a friend there who has started a blog called Single White Fan. His premise is as follows:

"I'm sending a letter to every NFL team asking them to make their case as to why they're the team for me. Where will this lead? Who knows. Maybe a form letter they send to every fan that mails them. Maybe I get a free t-shirt (and don't underestimate the power of a bribe). Maybe Jerry Jones arranges a charter flight for me to join him in the owner's box for every home game so he can wine and dine me and teach me what it means to be a Cowboy. I am fully prepared for any of these possibilities."

It's a pretty interesting concept and he's already heard back from the Buffalo Bills organization (with gifts!). So if you get a chance to check him swing over and do so, it's a pretty good read and consistently updated...unlike some blogs around here.

Farewell John Madden

The Great Turducken himself is calling it quits at the ripe old age of 73. Lets face it, the guys getting pretty dang old and will celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary this Fall. I don't blame the guy, after a while you begin to realize you can see the games much better from the comfort of your living room than from a press box.

I doubt anyone will ever get athlete's foot and not think of John Madden. Hopefully this doesn't end his videogame franchise as well!

The closest I've ever gotten to John Madden was seeing Frank Caliendo at The Punchline off Roswell Rd. So in your honor John, here's your commercial for the QuickPop Popcorn Popper.

The New Look Lions

The AJC is running a story saying Matthew Stafford is telling friends he is going to be paid $40 million to be the Lion's first overall pick. The Detroit Lions are being a little more quiet about it and dropping Aaron Curry references.

Also in the story it appears the Lions are going for a complete makeover as they unveil a new logo on Monday as well.

My hope (if Stafford does end up in Detroit) is that he is capable of turning the franchise from this...

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a way for the Steelers to lose the "Super Game*" but still have this guy be the MVP???

Call me cynical but I think the last thing the world needs is a bunch of bratwurst eating union workers having something to brag about.

I love Hines Ward. I think he's an excellent role model, especially because I remember reading a story about how he made it cool to be 1/2 Korean in Korea. (I know it sounds weird but apparently when he was a kid if you weren't 100% Korean it was like Roots over there). But I'm a sucker for underdogs and aside from Hershey's Chocolate I can't think of a single thing I like about the state of Pennsylvania.
