A Tribute to the Stupid, Non-threatening Mascot Hat

Any ideas what this style of hat is called? It's the undersized hat mascot designers of the 1940's thought made their mascot appear uber-threatening. Anyway, we at BloggingPantsless salute you, undersized-hat-wearing mascots!

TEXAS!

OREGON!

ME-YAMI!

...and don't you worry, the SEC wasn't exempt from this.

AUBARN!

LSU!

Of course the most famous illustration of our mascot, Uga, is wearing a hat as well...but it's a normal ball cap still found in places that aren't submarines.

...for which we are ALL thankful.

Just like me, the ball cap is primarily used to cover up hairline issues.

UGA Gear Review: Part Eins

82 days.

That's how close it is. You can't taste it, you can't smell it, but you can buy it...and if you're like me, you start eyeballing the gear for the upcoming season right about now.

Not so much the high-end market (polos/red pants) that's more for the time period after the All-Star break ...or as I call it the official end of baseball season. Right now it's when I'm looking at the t-shirts, hats, etc...

But as I'm sure I've posted before, I have a real problem with knock-off, sub-standard UGA stuff. You know, the Wal-mart FAILjersey that AJ Green wears every Saturday in the Fall.
...it's not that I think the guy who wears it is a bad person, he clearly isn't as bad as the one who shells out $75 for the replica Gators jersey. But like anyone who shows up to a wedding in jeans, we're glad you made it, but we're all secretly judging you.

That brings me to the point of my post...THIS SHIRT.
I can admit, I don't know the entire ins-and-outs on the history of UGA logos. I know a good bit, but I can't find a single instance where the Samford Bulldog (as I call it) was considered a graphic representation. Yet even Sportslogos.net (my go-to source for school logo graphics) has it in their catalog (and in the comments section you can see a few fans disagree about it's authenticity).

I don't hate the shirt, I assume if it was a licensed product it would be semi-authentic and probably some 40's/50's era design. But as I scrape the bottom of the barrel for non-PAC-16 expansion posts I try to stick to the basics and get the fan-base thinking. Anyone else seen this before?

...no Georgia, I will not quit blogging and come play defense for you.

Per Paul Westerdawg's twitter account:

"Robey is ~5'7" and 160 lbs. Smaller than Mikey Henderson. The idea that he'd play defense for us was idiotic. Problem solved."

This is regarding the statement from Frostproof High School's AD that Nickell Robey probably ain't coming to Georgia.

Though the article puts Robey at 5'8" 175 lbs, I'm more inclined to believe these details are inflated a bit and Paul is closer to being right. Why do I feel the need to post about this? Well, if Mr. Westerdawg is correct UGA just lost a DEFENSIVE RECRUIT of Willie Martinez which weighs as much as I do AND is 9" shorter than me!

Care to visually put this into perspective?

A (presumably) faster, shorter, and less patriotic version of this character would have been running around in your secondary next year.

THANK YOU, COACH GRANTHAM...THANK YOU!

UPDATE...yes, that quickly.
Ally states Robey is saying his coach is wrong and might still honor his verbal to Georgia. That being said, I'm keeping the picture up because I like the way the running shorts accentuate my leg-definition (or lack there-of).

If it was socially acceptable, I would drape myself in velvet.

The people have spoken, and by a resounding vote of 2 to 1:

"GROWN MEN ARE NOT MEANT TO WALK AROUND IN PUBLIC WEARING A COLLEGE FOOTBALL JERSEY."

I take this to mean the Orson Charles jersey I bought last week SHOULD remain within the comfort and security of my home's 4 walls.

...but chances are it probably won't.

I doubt I'll put aside the red pants and polo for Saturdays in Athens, but for the Saturday beer run to Kroger(s) chances are you'll see an obscenely tall, lanky guy wearing a Georgia football jersey extremely poorly.

So in review, gentlemen...

UNACCEPTABLE.

NEVER ACCEPTABLE

...NOT IN A MILLION YEARS.

Play it safe, listen to your wife/girlfriend. Chances are they know what's best for you anyway, and as long as it doesn't interfere with The Ritual, you'll at least keep her happy...and we all know that's what matters most.

(women stop reading here, there is no more to this story...in fact, look what's going on at TMZ's website!)

...

......

............

Alright guys, since it is way too obvious some womens website high-jacked my poll here is how we should handle this. If you're a guy who likes to wear a football jersey to football games chances are there isn't a straight man alive who gives a damn (as long as it's not a fake Wal-Mart jersey, then it's open season). You're a fan, show your fanhood. Chances are Mike "Big Dawg" Woods didn't get to where he is by caring what people thought.

Dawg Gear for 2009

Year in and year out, the University of Georgia ranks in the top 10 of branded merchandise sold. Most top SEC schools do, simply because we are a rabid fan base who squeal with glee once August rolls around and start to pee our pants with hopes Gameday goes back to the old Bubba Sparxxx opening instead of that GAWD AWFUL Big & Rich "Comin' to your sh*ttay" version (5 years removed, it looks like it ain't happening).
An Auburn version was the only trace of its existence I could find, BARF!

Anyway, back to my main point. Every year, if you are anything like me, you set a budget on how much money to blow on preseason Georgia gear. My family is a thrifty bunch, I've even been accused of being cheap by my wife...who's blog includes posts on where to get excellent grocery coupons online...so I must be pretty bad. This post is to help you get the most for your money and share a tip on where I've found some good deals.

If you are familiar with the Marshall's, Ross, and TJ Max circuit you know there are times you'll find a disaster area with random crap. Other times it's reasonably clean with some good deals. The college football preseason is one of those times you'll find some quality stuff.

I found a couple of good things at Marshall's yesterday, here's what I got.

#1. New UGA hat. I've got a lucky hat I wear all the time. It's dirty, smelly, and used to be red (it is now a pinkish-brown). That being said I still try to buy a new Georgia hat every season just because I feel the urge to do so. There are a ton of online retailers where you can find the variety you'd like, but for a small selection at great prices check out Marshall's (this was found by Cumberland Mall in Marietta). I decided to go with the bone pattern, Nike hat which was priced at $7.99.

#2. At the same Marshall's I came across a freakin' STEAL! They've somehow managed to come across the brand spanking new Authentic Orson Charles Blackout jersey before UGA even played the kid in a Blackout game!

...alright, well obviously this is an old Stafford jersey but from what we're hearing so far Orson might be our next big thing.

Therefore, when I saw it with a EM EFFIN' $19.99 pricetag hanging off it I decided to consult Bernie who is known around Larryville as a man of high-fashion (regardless of the whole dark socks with sandals fiasco). With Bernie's blessing I decided to make the purchase which had obviously been mispriced.

I'll readily admit, I'm more of a Reds and a Polo kinda guy when it comes to attending the game. But I figured since it wasn't the dreaded Wal-Mart screen-printed jersey it would work well around the house when I decide to hang around home for Saturdays. That brings me to another question that I've set a poll up for (top right of page).

"Is it socially acceptable for a grown man to be walking around in a college football jersey?"

I know I've seen them around Athens, but since college football is a slightly more formal affair in the South I wasn't sure how people viewed this. Vote or Die.

So that's basically the sales pitch for discount clothiers. It wouldn't hurt just to swing by and check out what they've got. I also saw some polos, gym shorts, etc I would have purchased had I not already owned some. But aside from your wardrobe I'm going to hit on one more thing.

The Grill Topper
I recently added Grill Toppers as a sponsor of Blogging Pantsless which I couldn't be more thrilled about. They've completely renovated their webpage as of yesterday and offer most big-name schools (even thought there is only one that matters). Grill Toppers didn't have to send me anything in order to get my praises. I've been branding every single hot dog I've eaten since Christmas with "Georgia" because my wife bought me the hot dog iron last December! If you want to really impress your fellow tailgaters this Fall, pick up the full rack sized Grill Topper which will brand 5 hamburgers at once!

But we welcome Grill Toppers with open arms and open mouths. We're all aware there are only 31 days left until we show the numbnuts in Stillwater how to properly tailgate. So break out the cash, get you some new UGA stuff, and get ready because September will be here before you know it.

G-Day

Looks like I won't be making it to G-Day this year, I couldn't get my Reds tailored in time so the bottoms remain unhemmed. My only other "team spirit" option would be my wife's outfit...

...and last time I put the tube-top on it got stuck so I'm not going through all that again!

That's not the only reason though, I've also got yardwork galore and the allure of the World Wide Leader televising the blasted thing so I might as well save my gas for the trip to Stillwater. Saturday afternoon, croquet and burgers at my house for G-Day if you're interested!
(...sorry, it won't be warm enough for short Reds)

Happy Friday, suckers.

...good Lord, Pam.

For anyone who is watching the Independence Bowl, hopefully you saw how handsome Pam Ward looked in the broadcast booth. Apparently George Zimmer gave her the finest suit Men's Warehouse had to offer.

...hottie.

Weekend Wrap-up

Alright, I've finally got a little work out of the way this morning and have freed up some time to throw up yet another garbage riddled post.

I didn't watch the UGA/ASU game Saturday. While this game was going on I was at a big bon-fire up in Helen, GA (where Oktoberfest starts in September). Regardless, I listened to most of the 4th quarter driving back home to Atlanta that night and was able to watch the game Sunday morning when I should have been gettin' my church on.

Anyway I remember Scott Howard talking about some questionable spots and junk calls from the Pac-10 refs. Honestly I wasn't expecting any kind of quality officiating from the crap-hole Pac-10 crew, but seriously...LEAPING!?!? Between that and Mo Mass' "tripping" penalty I worried about potential "travelling" and "double-dribble" calls being thrown in the mix...you know...just for the helluvit. If you noticed the remainder of the game no one tried to jump up and block a FG or PAT due to that crap call. If Boss Bailey was dead he would be spinning in his grave that is approximately 46" higher than everyone elses. Completely crap and it looked like the officiating crew was out there looking for reasons to penalize the Dawgs. But I just wanted to get that out of the way and move on to the good stuff.

Remember that thread going around on ASU's message boards that showed the UGA player look-alikes? Forget Rennie Curran looking like a Mack truck; that guy looked like a freakin' heat seeking missile powered freight-train made of Kryptonite and Acme anvels hauling a load of Mack trucks and...um...other...various really big things (yeah, I sputtered out there).

Rennie: NOBODY STEALS MY SODA!!!1

Rudy: ...I should have just gotten water.

So anyway, all the bellyaching we did regarding our pass defense has mostly gone by the way-side. What's the next big thing to whine about?!? Goal line offense!

During my ride home I heard the call-in show afterwards and Scott and Eric fielded several questions on how we should have gone for it on 4th and inches or tried to squeeze in one more play as the clock ran out. After the South Carolina game, our Pass Rush was a legitimate topic to complain about, but don't go looking for something to bitch about after a win like that. Scott Howard's actual words were "If you married Heidi Klum, don't complain that she burned the spaghetti."

...well said Scott.

Everything else looked great, my only gripe might be that Bryan Evans looked a little sluggish on some tackles, but even then I'm grasping at straws. Great defense, great offense, pretty good special teams, our offensive line version 4.0 held up just fine, Knowshon can add flying to his resume, Stafford STILL hasn't thrown an interception, and AJ Green is deservedly so the SEC Freshman Player of the Week.

I'm very excited about the Blackout Bama game. I think Coach Richt has got a great thing going with the Blackout games. It not only gets the fans into it, but the players get pumped and it give the visiting recruits something to look at and think "that would be freakin' b@d@$$ to get to wear someday". As long as we limit it to 1 homegame a year I think it'll serve the Dawgs well as a new tradition. Plus we get Gameday, a night game (which is alright, though I'm more fond of the 3:30 myself), and some big-time exposure.

Hand it to a #8 Alabama team and perhaps we get the bump to #2 heading into a much needed bye week. After that, I have no idea how this season will unfold. I'm trying to keep myself grounded thinking definitely 1 loss, but worst case we blow it twice. I was thinking before the ASU game if we HAD to lose one, that would be the one to drop (no matter how much it hurts an out of conference loss is better than an SEC loss anytime...unless it's to GTU).

I caught part of Florida/Tennessee in a bar in Helen and wasn't too impressed with either of them. I think UGA clicking on all cylinders can easily mow down a #4 Florida team who has a Pass Defense that rivals the styrofoam from Hole in the Wall...

...meaning as long as you aren't a 300 lb. woman you should do just fine. Also, Hole in the Wall might be the LEAST watchable gameshow ever.

That's almost all I've got. I'm hoping right now our guys are catching up on their rest before we start (closed?) practices again. With any luck the ice treatment was able to be administered on the plane ride home killing two birds with one stone. UGA VIIs still undefeated, I loved Coach Bobo's reverse call, the death threats to Coach Martinez have stopped for this week, and Michael Moore has a @#$%-load of tattoos...NOW that's all I've got

Knowshon Jordan

Somebody give this man his own friggin' shoe!

Bama Blackout

I spent most of the summer and the first few games thinking we'd blackout Tennessee. Well, I was wrong. I guess we're going to go state by state with this wrecking ball...fine by me.

Picture from Russell's Flicker page...hope you don't mind.

Break out your blackout attire, it's time to make a BIG statement in front of a BIGGER television audience.

St. Nick vs Evil Richt (how's that for a change of roles?)

I'll get my thoughts of the ASU game up later, I still need to gather them, but until then can someone tell that guy in the background with the ASU polo to pick his jaw up off the ground?

He obviously doesn't Know-shon.

Saturday Morning: A Day of Ritual - Round 1

As I promised Monday, I present you with the secrets to winning on your part. Today I'll cover just the basics of what to and what not to do when it comes to Gameday. These are the things you should know by heart already and should be a staple to any one's Saturday morning who takes their ritual seriously. So lets begin.

#1.

Never, ever, ever, EVER under any circumstance shave on Gameday. Guys, don't shave your face, your unibrow, don't trim your body hair, etc... Ladies, don't shave your legs or pluck anything if you want to take this seriously. Don't even trim your fingernails. Bottom line don't do anything that makes you less of a person (mass wise) when it comes to cheering your team to victory.

Here's another way to look at it.

Things that happen when you shave:
-weddings
-funerals
-court appearances
-jobs

Things that happen when you don't shave:
-hard liquor
-BBQ
-Guitar Hero
-hockey fights

...choose wisely, I know you will.

#2.

Know your Gameday attire, and have it ready the night before.
Pictured above:
1. Bulldog pattern underwear
2. UGA dri-fit polo
3. Red Eddie Bauer shorts
4. Red & Black New Balances
5. Gameday hat

No variations allowed unless you want to test your luck. The only acceptable changes are due to weather related events (rain ponch is a plus, long sleeves and full pants acceptable in late Fall) but even then you might want to make sure you're wearing the originals underneath...just to be safe.

#3.

Know what you're drinkin' and what you're drinkin' it out of.

Pictured above:
1. Jack Daniels (or chosen brand of whiskey)
2. Coke...NOT PEPSI...very important
3. Gameday cup

Last year I went through a handle of Jim Beam during the football season. A buddy of mine gave me a bottle of Jack for my birthday so I figured I'd give it a try this year. If things start getting too close I'll be heading down to Mink's Package to pick up some more Jim Beam...you can never be too safe (plus, said friend is a Tech fan, sabotage is always a possibility).

There is no acceptable alternative for Coke Classic. Bottom line.

Finally make sure you have your Gameday cup washed and ready to go come Saturday morning. This season I'm donning my plastic Sugar Bowl cup I got in New Orleans last January. Drinking is to commence at the beginning of ESPN's College Gameday Live (in moderation) only to slow until gametime. 15 minutes before your game of choice starts you better start hittin' the sauce again.

At the beginning of each quarter I down a shot of whiskey with a squirt of lemon juice concentrate on top. This shooter is in honor of Larry Munson who is all man (the whiskey) but still doom & gloom when it comes to sizing up the competition (the sour).
"Boy, Georgia Southern has a good lookin' team this season. Even with 8 starters out for the opener we better bring our A-Game because they'll come out swinging and we better be prepared."
Come 12:30 Saturday, this man will have you fearing Georgia Southern.

I'll cover a few more rituals later which are more specific to me personally. As I said earlier, the above should be standard traditions for anyone who is a football fan. I'll get into the crazy stuff tomorrow when I can take more pictures without getting rained on.

What your college gear says about you.

The following pictorial includes commentary overheard from the environments pictured clothing was worn in. Enjoy!

"OH LORD NO, PLEASE TAKE ME TO A DIFFERENT HOSPITAL! I'M BEGGING YOU!"

"Is it SUNDAY?!? I thought I.T. got away with only having to wear polos and black jeans."

"She doesn't look too bad, she must have had some dental work done."

"Well, at least the kid has shoes on. We ARE at the nice Piggly Wiggly after all."

10 things that look good to me: Nerd Practice Edition

Being the avid UGA fan that I am, I took a few exerpts from an AJC article about how Tech's first practice went yesterday.

#1 "...the offense looked brilliant at times, but more often than not, it looked like they were still learning."

#2 "Presumed starting quarterback Josh Nesbitt overthrew receivers on deep patterns, and occasionally put too much air under the ball, allowing a cornerback to recover and make a play."

#3 "Freshman Jaybo Shaw, presumably competing for the No. 2 job, worked mostly with the No. 2 offense, and didn't look particularly sharp."

#4 "He made a poor pitch in the 11-on-11s, and then he mishandled a snap."

#5 "None of the others - Tevin Washington, Bryce Dykes or Calvin Booker stood out either."

#6 "There was one series where Shaw mishandled the snap."

#7 "Nesbitt over threw an open receiver..."

#8 "...Washington mishandled the snap"

#9 "...Booker underthrew the ball and was picked off."

#10 "Good and bad," is how coach Paul Johnson called the morning practice and the play of his quarterbacks. "There's a lot of work to do and some young guys are going to have to push through."

Oh what the heck, here's one more thing that looks good to me...

...and something that looks REALLLLLLLLLY bad to me...

Vote for Georgia!

When ESPN isn't bringing us such hard-hitting information like who is more "Now", they fill the void for football junkies with fashion polls.

Paul Westerdawg had this up on his site so I'm linking it too. It's a vote for the coolest helmet contest. We're losing to Texas A&M right now...seriously?!? If nothing else I think UGA has one of the best "rewards program" in their bone shaped stickers. White for athletic acheivement, black for academic acheivement (I think). Regadless...

Follow this link and get us over the hump.

GO DAWGS!

When the cat's away...

This past week I have spent what I think might be the longest amount of time away from my wife since we've been married.

Some of you might not understand how different life is when your significant other isn't around, but it is like being in another world, the world of bachelorhood.

Both worlds have their pros and their cons, but I love my wife, I'm not afraid to admit it so that obviously wins out as the greater of the two. Although, as you can see in the following pictures, my week was filled with things I don't really get to do much as a married man. So I took pictures to document it.

#1 - Hamburger Helper

I understand the importance of "veggie nights" and "meals with sides" but one of my favorite meals when the Mrs. is away is Hamburger Helper. It is easy to cook, takes like 20 minutes to make, tastes pretty good, AND usually makes leftovers for future meals. Mrs. Mackalicious absolutely hates Hamburger Helper, so therefore it is sits next to my $4 bottle of Cooks Champagne in the "Special Occasions" section of the pantry.

#2 - Not Shaving- AKA. The Neck Beard

Let me throw this out there for you guys, I HATE shaving. I hate the way my face feels when it's clean-shaven, I hate trying to shave around an Adam's apple, and if I had it my way I'd have a thick, manly, man-beard. Well, unfortunately my facial hair is so splotchy it makes Matt Cerione look like the guys from ZZ Top. So I usually try to shave once or twice a week because my wife prefers it that way...but she ain't here...to let Scraggle Fest 2008 begin!

#3 Guitar Hero in My Underwear

My wife purchased Guitar Hero III for me as a Valentine's Day present, my life hasn't been the same since. I've found a way to run every single song on the game into the ground for her with constant practicing and enthusiastic, style-heavy performances, God bless her for what she has to put up with. When she leaves, so do the rules of what is proper to lounge around in, therefore late-night shows featuring Through the Fire and Flames occur. Also, I know I have great legs so please don't overload the comments section of this post with flattery.

#4 Excessively Large Cereal Bowls

Is that a mixing bowl? Nope, this week it's a cereal bowl.

Those were just a few highlights of my week as I attempted to celebrate acting single again. Other top moments included sleeping with the radio on, unlimited hot-water, and controlling the remote.

But to be honest with you, I don't think I could keep it up. I'm ready for my wife to get back, #1 because I miss her, #2 because I'm healthier & happier with her around, and #3 because she reads this blog. So if you all will excuse me, I need to go clean house before she gets back.

See you Monday with the Weekend Wrap-up! HOLLA!

UPDATE: After reading this I realize what a lazy slob I sound like, but let me include the smart things I did. Take care of the dogs, do the dishes, make the bed (even though I don't believe in making the bed if you're just going to be sleeping in it again in less than 24 hours), not spend money on eating out every night, and not going with my buddy Big Phil to see The Dark Knight at midnight (he most likely will have his review of it up at My Reel Reviews sometime today if you're interested) when I knew I had work the next day even though I REALLY wanted to see it. So there you have it, I'm a slightly responsible guy who can take care of himself and use good judgement even when his better half is away.

Thirteenth Jersey - Oregon Edition

In Nike's never ending quest to provide the University of Oregon with the ugliest jersey combos, they've blown WAY past a 3rd jersey and now sit at their 13th jersey.

This time though, it's serious. Lets face it, the PAC-10 along with every other conference is sick and tired of hearing about the speed of the SEC. Their solution to this problem is to make their players stronger. If you add weight, you strengthen leg-muscle, if you strengthen leg-muscle, you get faster and stronger in your lower-body.

Previously Nike unveiled the Oregon jersey with the diamond plate graphic on the shoulders. People were not impressed by this. In order to strengthen their players AND create yet another stupid looking jersey for the Duck Nation, Nike actually added rigid, diamond-plate metal to the jersey shoulders and numbers of this new practice jersey. This added an additional 25 lbs. to the jersey weight which over the course of the season's practice schedule should speed up the team as muscle grows. Gamedays will see the Duck's football team don their traditional, non-traditional green & yellow combination which is significantly lighter and will allow the Ducks to showcase a lightning quick offense without last year's Heisman hopeful, Dennis Dixon.

Much like how if you want to impress me with your barbed-wire tattoo, you wrap an actual piece of barbed-wire around your bicep; the Ducks have finally impressed me by putting real diamond plate metal on their jerseys...but they're still ugly.

Breaking the tradition of my 3rd jersey segment, these will not be worn against any opponent, rather they are limited to practice only between the offense and defense of the University of Oregon's practice squads.

Hopefully these new practice jerseys will continue to help the Ducks produce consistent, top-quality players like the Atlanta Falcons' own Joey Harrington...wait that can't be right...Joey HARRINGTON...top-quality!?! Pay no attention to this last paragraph, that can't be right.

EDIT: Hopefully this new practice jersey will help the Ducks begin to produce consistent, top-quality players which we don't normally associate with the University of Oregon...yeah...that sounds more like it.

Third Jersey - Notre Dame Edition

There is no denying how huge the black jersey was last season (I'm of the opinion if Auburn would have clobbered us, they never would have seen the light of day again). Regardless, they looked great and we ended the year with a 2-0 record in them.

During the off season other teams have taken notice how throwing a 3rd jersey into the rotation can really energize the players, the fan base, and the bottom line in merchandising. So as a Blogging Pantsless exclusive, I've been in contact with several athletic departments across the NCAA and have received private access to their designs of a 3rd jersey they're looking to market this season.

Each day I'll showcase the school, the jersey, and the game which they choose to unveil it.

_____________________________________________

If there are any Irish fans out there after last season, I'm sure you guys are looking forward to a huge rebound. They planned to kick this all off by hiring new AD Jack Swarbrick. I spoke with Swarbrick shortly after his conference announcing his new position took place this afternoon.

Jack said he'd been working closely with quarterback Jimmy Clausen to design a third jersey to pump up the fanbase and players after a disappointing 3-9 campaign last season.

You may remember Clausen from a few of the pictures below.
>

Hmm...looks familiar.

HAAAAAY, GETTING WARM-ERRRRRRR!

Ah, there he is. I recognize him now, the whole upright thing was fooling me.

Now that we can all place whom Ad Swarbrick has been designing with we'll unveil the FABULOUS new jersey for the Fighting Irish.

It will be marketed as the Pot o'Gold Jersey. QB Clausen understands the pain Irish fans endured last season. He said this season will metaphorically be a rainbow. Mentions of how you follow a rainbow to get to the pot of gold were spoken as I looked on in disbelief. AD Swarbrick wanted the Notre Dame faithful to have PRIDE again. The path they speak of leads them to their pot of gold, the National Championship.

The new jersey isn't going to be held for a huge rivalry game, they wanted to release it for the season opener against San Deigo State, August 30th.

Coach Weiss couldn't be reached for comment, but several Domino's Pizza delivery drivers were seen entering with multiple orders and leaving with shredded sleeves.

Best of luck to you Irish fans, I'm sure you're parents will be proud.

The Third Jersey - Auburn Edition

There is no denying how huge the black jersey was last season (I'm of the opinion if Auburn would have clobbered us, they never would have seen the light of day again). Regardless, they looked great and we ended the year with a 2-0 record in them.

During the off season other teams have taken notice how throwing a 3rd jersey into the rotation can really energize the players, the fan base, and the bottom line in merchandising. _____________________________________________

Auburn actually got the business end of the 3rd jersey's whoopin' stick last year in the Classic City. The "Ath-uh-let-ic Department" at Auburn is reporting they held an open contest for the design of their 3rd jersey.

There was more than 1,000 entries of which 724 were EXACTLY the same premise.

Coach Tommy Tuberville has been informed of the winning jersey and is requesting fans show up to the LSU game on September 20th decked out in orange.

Posters have been printed up to be distributed thoughout the surrounding trailor parks / student dorms hyping up the "Arnge Out"(sp) against LSU.

Wow Mackie, you really out-did yourself with this one.

As you can tell there is definitely a NASCAR element inspired in this design. Apparently (and I had no idea) NASCAR is big in the area. Many of the entries had sponsor patches included from various fan-favorite companies Hot Pocket, West Point Stevens, and Sam's Choice Cola, but after informing the student body of NCAA jersey regulations the patches were removed.

The second place jersey was a throw-back style still popular around the Auburn campus today. It involved a shorter length that left an exposed midriff similar to the one's seen back when REO Speedwagon and Poison ruled the campus (or as I like to call it 2004).

The Bayou Bengals better bring their A Game come September because there are going to be A LOT of rowdy Tigers/War Eagles/Plainsmen decked out in orange cruising town in their IROC-Zs just waiting for the purple people to give them "the ol' stink-eye".

If I might add a bit of advice to the LSU fans who arrive in Auburn that weekend, wear your purple and gold hard-hats. If you piss these people off they will throw their cans of "Bud Heavy" at you...and it will hurt.

The Third Jersey-UF Edition

This week starts with our leathery friends to the south, the University of Florida. Several Georgia fans remember the orange shouldered jersey they wore at the Cocktail Party a few years ago. Well be warned Dawg fans, just like Terence Moore predicted (and continues to predict), Urban Meyer is looking for revenge.

As the month of October draws to an end, Coach Meyer is going to send out a call to the Gator Nation. When November 1st arrives, he is requesting ALL Florida fans, put on their coordinating shirt for...that's right...a DENIM OUT!

The Gators will take the short drive to Jacksonville that Saturday, with jorts and jirts (can I copyright that?) for the first EVER Denim Out of Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. The jersey is currently in production with the following design to be available the week before the WLOCP.

As I said, the last week in October is the projected release date of the denim jersey. The UF athletic department wanted to replace that weird flowing nylon with a fabric the players were more accustomed to. There is a chance they will release the jersey a week prior to the expected date. This is to allow plenty of time for the fans who wish to cut the sleeves off to get a good thick, white, fray for the cut-off look most are familiar with.

As a Georgia fan with a good bet riding on this game, I for one am terrified. A loss this year could completely wipe-out the progress UGA has made in breaking the freakishly poor record of the last 18 years.
