Don't bring me down, Bruce.

That's a fine lookin' dawg.

I'm wearing my bold prediction pants...just kidding, I'm not actually wearing pants right now...but I declare UGA VIII will end the Florida dominance streak.

Why do I say this?

No idea. But it's time, and this is the mascot I'm pinning all my college football hopes & dreams on. I'm looking forward to seeing the changing of the collars ceremony this Saturday. So a new era begins in Athens, but first, I'd like to address our interim mascot.

Dear Russ:
Thank you for your service to the Bulldog Nation. You beat some big names, and your lost to some slopsuckers. But during your tenure we went through a period of self-discovery that was long overdue. You transitioned us into a new breed of Bulldawg ready to take the field. For that, we salute you, and from all the Dawg fans out there I want to extend to you a laurel and hardy handshake...

...good dog, damn good.

Sincerely:
Mackie

Big Bad, lets get those nuts iced down, Noon games are warm out there. You've got a team to represent and one helluva grind coming up in 2 weeks. Make it happen, boy.

Team-in-Law

I'm really looking forward to the Georgia/Abuurn game this weekend. I think the implications of this game will center on who will have the best of two opposing bad seasons. With the best of luck we can match Auburn with a 7-5 season. With a "Jesus in my french-toast" kinda miracle we can win out and sit at 8-4 going into bowl season. I like our chances Saturday, but I wanted to clarify before I go into the meat of this post, that I am a Dawg fan through-and-through. I don't change hats mid-season, and I sure as hell don't fall off any bandwagon the moment Georgia fails to get 10 wins. I bleed red (and black) and there's no doubt in my mind that Georgia Football is NOT dead.

So now that I've cleared the air with verifying my allegiance, I wanted to get some input regarding the metaphorical (and somewhat literal) elephant in the room.

My subject of this post is to address a different issue regarding your Team-in-Law.

For those who don't understand the concept of "Team-in-Law" it's pretty much the same thing as your mother-in-law...it's the team fanbase you marry into.

Many of you do not have this problem because you either:
A: Aren't married
B: Didn't marry outside your supported institution's fanbase.

As much fun as it was avoiding "Rammer Jammer" the 3 previous times our teams met, last year this picture was taken...

...just before my wife loudly proclaimed that she just beat the hell outta us.

I can admit I have a "BAMA" shirt I wear when Georgia has a bye week. I respect Alabama for their history and The Bear. But should I be in attendance at the SEC Championship what is the appropriate attire in order to support one's Team-in-Law?

I wouldn't want to go all out and be confused with all those "BAMA'S BACK BABY, WOOOOoooooo!!!!1" people but clearly, they are the lesser of the 2 evils meeting in the Dome December 5th. Any help you guys could provide I'd greatly appreciate because you know where my heart is...and it's not with Nick Saban...but it does belong to one of his worshipers.

GO DAWGS!

UGA Pumpkin Ideas

If you remember this post from last year, then you already know how serious my wife and I take our pumpkin carving.

I haven't hit a wall with my blog but work is at a very pivotal point. Right now if I play my cards right I could land myself in a good position financially. Therefore I'm taking my job very seriously which in turn means the posting has lacked creativity and enthusiasm...whoopsie.

Also, the rough start for our Dawgs isn't lending itself any real memorable moments that should forever be captured in pumpkin flesh. I've got some serious thinking to do but if you have any grandiose ideas you'd like to share, if I like it I'll immortalize it here Blogging Pantsless.

Throw me some bones, Dawg Nation.

Why cupcakes are good...

In an effort to provide an alternative opinion to many people who feel the scheduling of Idaho State is pathetic, I wanted to explain why throwing a couple of cupcakes into a schedule can be beneficial to UGA.

9.4.2010 - L.L. Rajun' Cajuns

11.6.2010 - I.S. 'Tater Tigers...RAAAAAAAARRR!!!

Reason #1: Apparently if Boise State can beat 12 cupcakes + Oregon and be in the running for a BCS Bowl game, I doubt playing 2 cupcakes + the SEC + Colorado + Tech will hurt America's opinion of UGA's schedule strength.

Reason #2: Remember earlier last week when we thought Arizona State would be a welcomed break for our boys who might finally get a blow-out win we've been looking for? Nope, I don't remember that either...must notta happened. It also doesn't hurt we get Idaho State in between the Cocktail Party and Auburn next year, the next best thing to a bye week is a cupcake.

Reason #3: I know they say if you're going to lose, lose early. But I'm a little selfish and prefer starting out 1-0...even if it means I don't get to drive a hundred thousand miles to Oklahoma and spend a lot of money to get a good match-up.

Reason #4: (and perhaps my best reason) I think cupcakes are the best opportunity for families with small children to enjoy a game in Athens. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the big-time match ups like LSU and Tech, but having a family friendly environment where young children don't have to hear nerds yelling "TO HELL WITH GEORGIA" or see LSU fans puking and defecating themselves goes a long way toward molding the next generation of Dawg fans. I'm sure this reasoning will go over as well as Mike Adams' "family friendly tailgate zones", but I will readily admit those no drinking ghost town areas were a bad idea. If you don't want your children to hear cursing and see me streaking, don't take them to Georgia/Auburn...take them to Georgia/Midvale.

Willie Martinez is pulling on the other side of that door.

I know it's not as exciting, and I know the stadium might not sellout. But there is a soft, Communistic side of me that feels parents of small children should have the opportunity to let their children bark in public without having some visor-wearing douchebag with a "COCKS" shirt on dropping F-Bombs and shooting birds at them. Just my opinion, please somebody think of the children!

Christmas

Well, I told you guys earlier I'd made out pretty dang good over the course of Christmas. So here, in no particular order (though the best ones seem to stay in the front of my mind) are some of the gifts I got.

#1. A banjo...you're damn right, a banjo!

(also pictured, a Rush 2112 album. WOOT WOOT!!1)

#2. Various reading material.

(you can never be too well informed)

#3. UGA grill cover and a UGA Grill Topper!

(now all my wieners shall be branded with "Georgia"...all of them)

#4. Underwear
(not pictured)
...funny story, I figured I wouldn't take a picture of the underwear I was given and look online for a skimpy man-thong or something to be funny. Little did I know if you go to google and do an image search for "man thong"...you don't get a picture of underwear laying out on the counter, you get male models...Ugh.

#5. Premium Booze

(...technically I purchased the 1792 for myself to look good with gift #6)

#6. Denture-shaped ice cube trays.

(Yep, these are just as cool as they sound. Also, looks badass in a lowball glass with 1792 and a splash of lemon concentrate)

#7. My sister back home...with gifts!

This flag actually flew in Iraq, how cool is that?!? She also gave me one of those middle-eastern lamps like from Aladdin but there wasn't a genie in it.

#8. A home office

delivered next Tuesday, should look like this.

#9. Defensive Pressure

I believe a thank you is in order for Coach Martinez. But don't be surprised if I'm looking for this again in the Fall, deliver the goods or you're back on my $#!t list.

Happy New Year to you, as of right now Ole Miss is pillaging all of Coach Leach's booty. That would be a great start to 2009 for the SEC. Regardless of what Quinton at Georgia Sports Blog thinks, I always cheer for the SEC. Don't get me wrong, I hate Florida as much as the next guy but I do believe in the strength of conference unity. Seeing the ACC lose 2/3 of their bowl games hurts their street cred. At the moment South Carolina has been the only dud of our conference. (anyone surprised though?) The Big 10 is a proven bust yet again this year, watching the Big 12 bite the dust after their pomp would be just as entertaining.

Remember, it's not GO 'DORES, HOTTY TODDY, GEAUX TIGAH'Z, ROLL TIDE, or GO GATORS...it's chanting "SEC, SEC, SEC..." in the face of other conferences. That's how I justify it, take it or leave it. However, I still bleed Red & Black and hate Urban Meyer as much as the next Dawg.

Pain makes you feel alive.

Sorry for the light posting today. This morning I made a doctors appointment because I woke up with some serious pain in my upper-back. My wife thinks it's because I sleep with 3 pillows, my doctor (after squeezing my rib cage and having me fall off the chair in pain) thinks it's because I have inflammation in the joints of my spine among other sore muscles. I like to think my wife is correct because:

#1 she is right 99.9% of the time about everything else.
#2 she wasn't the one who gave me a cortisone shot in the ass.

Between that and 3 heavy duty prescription pain killers I've spent most of the day laying on the couch and drooling...which sounds like the typical Friday to me, HEY-OOOoooooo!!!!111

Doctor said the shot should help the fact I'll be sitting without any upper-back support in Sanford Stadium tomorrow but unfortunately I can't be chasing shots of whiskey with my "pain go bye-bye" pills. So really this post is a call out to any and all readers who are willing to lend me their livers starting at 3:30pm tomorrow.

I need someone to cover for me since I will have to miss part of my Gameday Ritual. Anyone out there who is willing to do 4 shots of whiskey with a squirt of lemon-juice concentrate at the beginning of each quarter will be given a special honor the following week. If you take pictures of yourself taking up my ritual of a shooter at the beginning of every quarter, email them to me and I will post them on my site under the headline, HEROS OF GAMEDAY.

Any takers? Our victory over Central Michigan may hang in the balance, and I don't think any of you want that cloud hanging over you if we lose. Shoot me a heads up in the comments section if you can help me out.

Saturday Morning: A Day of Ritual - Round Duex

I promised you some pretty weird stuff. Not 2 girls 1 cup weird, just strange like when your farts smell like Krystal cheeseburgers and you haven't eaten Krystals since last Monday kind of weird.

Picking up where we left off yesterday...

#4. The Changing of the Flags Ceremony.

This is my house Monday-Friday.

This is my house Saturday-Sunday.

No disrespect to Uncle Sam, but the weekend is where we air out the UGA flag in the Mackalicious household. Saturday morning, after I've donned my Saturday best I go to the front closet and pull out the Georgia flag. I take it outside, change it out with the Stars & Stripes, then before putting it back in the holder I wave the ever-lovin' shart outta' it on the front porch. This does 2 things, #1 it shakes the wrinkles out, #2 it lets the neighborhood know that those who bleed red & black are welcome here, all others can sit & spin Terence Moore style.

#5. Dress the Dawg (aka. Geez Mackie, that's pretty gay).

Alright, lets just get this out on the table. I have two dogs, they both happen to be Chihuahuas. Laugh it up, but chances are I love my dogs more than I like any of your family members so eat it. Below is their Easter picture, it is by the very (male) definition of the word, queer. But I'm not making excuses, I approve of this action because it makes my wife and I smile and I'm told that I like to do it.

Pepper is on the left, Olive on the right.

Olive was our first dog, I had her in college, we bought her a UGA shirt.

Olive proved to be VERY unlucky when wearing the UGA shirt. To put this into perspective, for the Chick-Fil-A Bowl 2 years ago, Olive wore the UGA shirt for the first 2 quarters...at half-time I made her take it off. So we bought another dog, Pepper. Pepper has a solid record of winning while wearing the shirt, therefore he gets to wear the UGA shirt...Olive doesn't. For one day, my little black chihuahua who likes to poop in the guest bathroom puts on a Georgia t-shirt and becomes the #1 Dawg in the state that isn't named Uga. On walks he gets to pee in the Auburn fan's yard, poop in the Tech fan's yard and he only snaps at the children of the Clemson people down the street. Yep, for a gay little dog, he ain't half bad.

Get to know him, you'll like him, he dresses well, keeps a clean house, and will totally raise the property value in your transitioning neighborhood.

#6 Throw my hat in the creek.
This is my lucky hat, not my Gameday hat, my lucky hat.

Every Saturday morning the Dawgs are playing, this hat gets thrown into the creek.

I don't remember exactly why I started doing this, and I won't reveal which East Cobb creek it is that flows lucky water in case there are any spies reading who want to steal the secrets of winning. This is really all I remember...

Matthew Stafford's freshman year after we lost to Kentucky I decided my "lucky hat" (shown above) had run out of luck and I bought my current "Gameday hat" to circumvent the loss. That was the week before we played Auburn. The following Saturday I wore my old lucky hat outside to take the dogs out. While I was out there I walked down the hill to the creek. I thought about the loss the previous week and I ripped the old worn out hat off my hat and slammed it down into the creek thinking if we can't beat Kentucky, we sure as hell ain't gonna beat Auburn.

So I picked my hat up out of the creek water, and hung it up to dry outside, went inside and watched football all day. Georgia won and I've been doing it every week since. Before I left to go to the Sugar Bowl in January, I went to the creek, got a cup of water out and left a note for my wife to pour it over my lucky red hat before the Sugar Bowl was to air. She did it, Georgia won. I know it's silly, I don't question it, I just do it and shoot a bird at anyone who makes fun of me.

#7. The Lucky Yankee Candle.
The Yankees burned my state, so I burn their candle. It's red and smells like like Pomegranate...and victory!

#8. Something Old / Something New.
Just like most all other Dawg fans with a ceramic bulldog, I turn it to face Athens on Gameday. But next to it on my shelf I placed the Larry Munson talking bobblehead I purchased from The Georgia Sports Blog's store link. I plan on incorporating that in some way. Perhaps have it facing North-East just like the real Larry...but I haven't worked that out yet.

#9. Butter-fest!

Every Saturday before the Georgia game comes on, I eat an entire stick of butter.

...okay I made that last one up, but at this point I feel like I could have thrown that and eating the soul of a child onto the list and you wouldn't have thought I was much stranger.

Either way, I hope this helps you come to terms with your own ritual you perform before gametime. I honestly don't think I could reveal much more about myself that would be as embarrassing as this but shame has never been my strong-suit.

Saturday Morning: A Day of Ritual - Round 1

As I promised Monday, I present you with the secrets to winning on your part. Today I'll cover just the basics of what to and what not to do when it comes to Gameday. These are the things you should know by heart already and should be a staple to any one's Saturday morning who takes their ritual seriously. So lets begin.

#1.

Never, ever, ever, EVER under any circumstance shave on Gameday. Guys, don't shave your face, your unibrow, don't trim your body hair, etc... Ladies, don't shave your legs or pluck anything if you want to take this seriously. Don't even trim your fingernails. Bottom line don't do anything that makes you less of a person (mass wise) when it comes to cheering your team to victory.

Here's another way to look at it.

Things that happen when you shave:
-weddings
-funerals
-court appearances
-jobs

Things that happen when you don't shave:
-hard liquor
-BBQ
-Guitar Hero
-hockey fights

...choose wisely, I know you will.

#2.

Know your Gameday attire, and have it ready the night before.
Pictured above:
1. Bulldog pattern underwear
2. UGA dri-fit polo
3. Red Eddie Bauer shorts
4. Red & Black New Balances
5. Gameday hat

No variations allowed unless you want to test your luck. The only acceptable changes are due to weather related events (rain ponch is a plus, long sleeves and full pants acceptable in late Fall) but even then you might want to make sure you're wearing the originals underneath...just to be safe.

#3.

Know what you're drinkin' and what you're drinkin' it out of.

Pictured above:
1. Jack Daniels (or chosen brand of whiskey)
2. Coke...NOT PEPSI...very important
3. Gameday cup

Last year I went through a handle of Jim Beam during the football season. A buddy of mine gave me a bottle of Jack for my birthday so I figured I'd give it a try this year. If things start getting too close I'll be heading down to Mink's Package to pick up some more Jim Beam...you can never be too safe (plus, said friend is a Tech fan, sabotage is always a possibility).

There is no acceptable alternative for Coke Classic. Bottom line.

Finally make sure you have your Gameday cup washed and ready to go come Saturday morning. This season I'm donning my plastic Sugar Bowl cup I got in New Orleans last January. Drinking is to commence at the beginning of ESPN's College Gameday Live (in moderation) only to slow until gametime. 15 minutes before your game of choice starts you better start hittin' the sauce again.

At the beginning of each quarter I down a shot of whiskey with a squirt of lemon juice concentrate on top. This shooter is in honor of Larry Munson who is all man (the whiskey) but still doom & gloom when it comes to sizing up the competition (the sour).
"Boy, Georgia Southern has a good lookin' team this season. Even with 8 starters out for the opener we better bring our A-Game because they'll come out swinging and we better be prepared."
Come 12:30 Saturday, this man will have you fearing Georgia Southern.

I'll cover a few more rituals later which are more specific to me personally. As I said earlier, the above should be standard traditions for anyone who is a football fan. I'll get into the crazy stuff tomorrow when I can take more pictures without getting rained on.

Weekend Wrap-up

Wow, what a weekend eh? I don't know about your neck of the woods but in mine it pretty much looked stormy with gail-force winds for 3 straight days blowing down trees and raining leaves into my gutter all day. THEN it finally decides to rain last night once my gutter is filled up and runs into my attic space and through my ceiling. That means I get up on the roof in the dark with a tarp and a flashlight to clean out my gutter and lay plastic down to stop the run-in.

...and you think you can't wait for football season?

Anyway, I've got big plans for posting this week. My plan is to make this BLOGGING PANTSLESS RITUAL WEEK. I know most fans have their pregame rituals they perform which, regardless of what any wife/girlfriend will tell you, actually does help lead your team to victory. So this week I will be highlighting different parts of what I do to provide that extra bit of positive static in the atmosphere to pump up each player taking the field in a UGA uniform.

Sound crazy? Perhaps, but here's the way I see it. If you have a fish in a puddle of water how important is each drop of water that lands in his puddle? If there is a player who is tired and beat down, there might be that extra bit of spirit in the air (be it a cheering fan in Sanford Stadium or a barking Dawg in Iraq) that gives him the boost of confidence he needs to give it all he's got just one more time. Just like Larry Munson begged the defense to "Hunker it down one more time!" in Auburn, we as fans need to pour every bit of emotion into cheering for our team because it does matter.

This guy is doing his part, how 'bout you?
