Pantsless Preview: Part IIIIIIII (8) of IIIIIIIIII (10) - The Two-fer

10.24.2009 Bye (Home)

Time to be chillin' out, maxin', relaxin', all cool.
Completely metaphorical for having denim on our mind.

Hopefully we actually make good use of this bye week...unlike 11/22/2008.

10.31.2009 Gators (Neutral)

Where to start with this?

First, it's hard to argue when these guys are on your side.

AC/DC recently added a show in Jacksonville for Friday night, October 30th. How do I know they'll cheer for Georgia? Compare everything Tim Tebow stands for with everything AC/DC stands for. I'm sure Nickleback or Creed will schedule locally so the jean-short faithful will have something to do Friday night.

Florida enters this game after a 3 game stretch @LSU, Arkansas, and @Miss State. LSU has the best shot of beating Florida, Arkansas and Mississippi State will both lose (regardless of what Dan Mullen knows). My hope is this run takes a toll on the Gators. I hope Tebow has to run directly into 300 lb. defensive linemen for three straight weeks (according to Thom Brennaman their lives will be better for it). I don't want injuries, I want weariness.

I want the Gators to enter this football game knowing they've owned us for 16 of the last 19 games. I hope they're still #1. I hope they've got a big ol' jug of Kool-Aid they're drinking on the sideline. I want their confidence to be a mile high in this game, because for once I think we've got the fire.

No stats or reasoning, because there is no reason we should win this game.

No gameplan, because the gameplan is to play Georgia Football.

No excuses for not being prepared.

Mark Richt will coach us into Jacksonville.

This guy will do his thing.

But this...
...will be the face you'll see on the front of the AJC November 1st when the Bulldogs shock the world.

Georgia 23, Florida 21.

Go Dawgs!

Yesterday = A Good Day

I'm struggling to put together decent posts during the bye week (which makes me wonder what I was writing about before football started), but in honor of my 10,000th page view I just thought I'd let you all know yesterday was a pretty good day.

(really I just hit refresh 10,000 times to get my numbers up)

I've finally moved past the Alabama game and feel that same standard of homeostasis I felt prior to September 27th. I'm looking forward to a weekend of relaxation and football where Vandy is hosting Gameday. It's like a vacation overseas where all the sports coverage is strange, new, and Vanderbilt is a decent team. I usually pull for Vandy whomever they play, but now do I need to cheer for the Cow College to make sure Vandy drops in the East? WHHAAAAA!?!? Looks like I'll be taking 2 showers Saturday; one for general hygiene, and one to wash off the stink of rooting for ABUURN. Ugh.

Also, my sister's basset hound, Eleanor Roosevelt (yes I know, she named the dog Eleanor Roosevelt), will be staying with us briefly while my sister is overseas. Dogs will outnumber humans in our house and I assume they will mount an all-out offensive attack to overtake the television and watch Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl we still haven't deleted from the DVR.

But back to my original rambling of what a good day yesterday was, I noticed for the first time I was approaching the 10K milestone around lunchtime. I didn't think this little creative outlet would produce such results in just a few months. I appreciate the 50-60 people who stop by on a daily basis, my site-tracker shows me what kind of traffic I'm getting and I'm thrilled daily. So thank you to everyone who swings by and drops a comment letting me know I misspelled something or have posted factual inaccuracies. It motivates me to think of more random stuff that hints at creativity.

Other highlights from yesterday include BBQ at lunch, learning Phish was getting back together, and (my guilty pleasure) Dirty, Sexy, Money returning to television.

I don't allow myself to get "sucked in" to many television dramas primarily because I don't like broadcast corps telling me what I should like, because it causes the exact opposite reaction they hope for and I end up not even giving it a chance. There are a few exceptions however.
#1 Dirty Sexy Money
#2 Nip/Tuck
#3 Days of Our Lives (but only for 1 season when I was in college, and it was really interesting because Jon Black's ex-wife Marlena was possessed, there was a tiger running loose through New Salem, a masked man was going around "killing people" but was really taking them to a strange island, and Sami and Lucas were THIS CLOSE to getting back together until that ho-bag Chloe came into the picture.)

Most other shows I like get cancelled, like Notes From the Underbelly. Anyone remember that one? It was hilarious, but got tossed after the writers strike.

Geez, I see how prone I am to tangents after looking at the above paragraph.

...and finally, my AC/DC tickets came in the mail, HALES YESH!.

Anyway, thanks again for finding the crap I write about mildly interesting enough to check out daily, here's to 10,000 more hits! So pick up your balls and load up your cannon for a 21 gun salute...

The Great Depression

I fought it. I fought it hard. I didn't want to put myself through it all over again. But the whole time I knew it was there, I couldn't avoid it. After a long day of work, I would sit down in the living room with my dinner in hand as my wife flipped through the DVR to watch her Oprah for the day...and I would see it, staring at me. Though Oprah talking to a whole family addicted to heroin was mildly interesting, my mind was elsewhere. I couldn't avoid the DVR'd Georgia/Alabama game I so desperately wanted to delete...but I knew I'd have to look it in its ugly black eye eventually.

So in my state of depression, I bit the bullet. I had to know if it was really as bad on television as it felt in person. To be honest, I didn't watch the whole first half, I couldn't. I knew those first 2 quarters were something so vile and disgusting it would make the owner of an adult movie store in Thailand vomit like my aunt watching 2 girls 1 cup for the first time.

MOM, can I have another spoonful of Willie Martinez' defensive schemes?

So I sat there, and I watched eCMR tell Holly Rowe our defense needed to "get after their asses". It was good to see G.A.T.A. get thrown out there for old times sake. I believe Coach Richt is one of those guys who doesn't have to curse to get his point across, but when he does, and it's headed in your direction, you better hold on to you #&$%'n hat because cameras aren't allowed in the locker rooms and like space, no one can hear you scream.

Watching the second half, I almost, almost, thought we had a shot when we pulled within two touchdowns. Of course I knew we lose in the end, but I was trying to view this from the unbiased eye. To sum it all up, we had shiny golden moments of "holy crap we might just pull this off" mixed in with Latino Honda Civic green moments of "AAArrgghhhhhhh!!!1".

Michael Moore looked like he used every single one of his tattoos to catch some impossible balls in double coverage. Yet, he also got hit square in the chest with distanced single coverage a few times making it look like his pads were made of trampolines. That was frustrating and painful to watch, but overall it didn't seem as bad as it felt Saturday night.

My final thoughts are as following:

#1. I am uber-thrilled this is a bye week. With the injuries we sustained last Saturday, we might be toast against a mediocre Tennessee team if we had to play just 7 days later.

#2. Judging solely by the fire and poise we came out with in the second half, I feel confident if we play 4 quarters of football (as opposed to 2 quarters of grab@$$ and 2 quarters of fight for your life) we can make it through the next stretch relatively unscathed...hopefully. Again, that's playing 4 whole quarters of blood-boiling, fire-breathing, knock the festivin' snot outta people SEC football.

#3. Ben Jones going toe-to-toe and forehead-to-chest with Terrence Cody in slow motion might be one of the most inspirational things you could ever show future freshmen centers. Jones did about as good a job as you could possibly ask someone in his position to do. ESPN showed several replays of Mt. Cody getting his moneys worth from Ben Jones. Yeah Stafford still felt pressure and Jones got flagged for holding, but Terrence Cody outweighed our freshman center by 60+ lbs. I look forward to seeing him shape up to be a brick wall in the next couple of years, thanks Ben.

#4. I have been patient with Willie Martinez so far this year. I was patient with him last year, even when I didn't want to be, and he turned it around after the near loss to Vandy making last year a season to remember. The South Carolina game was too close, strike one. The Bama game is strike two. If I have to watch another half of uninspired defense coached by a stubborn DC who refuses to change his gameplan, even as the opposition is tearing it to shreds, I'm willing to jump on the Fire Willie Bandwagon. I want to love you, Willie, I really do. But I enjoy you on the sidelines like I enjoyed seeing Ray Goff. Your heart is there, but my faith in your skills and qualifications is waining.

Hopefully our boys are taking their aspirin and keeping ice on the swelling. Pray for quick healing before this long haul because we need to be 100%. Break the thin ice of depression fans because our team needs us more than ever. They know the pain of loss. They are no longer the invincible wonder Dawgs they originally thought. I'm hoping it left a void only winning the SEC East can fill. We need to be hungry, we need to play with emotion, and we need every single kid out there in silver britches to step up and perform at the level they were recruited to perform. I hope practice this week is a living hell for the Athens boys who got beat by Alabama. Some testicles better drop before we get Tennessee, Vandy, LSU, Florida, Kentucky, and Auburn because that is a man-sized portion to put on your plate.

Go Dawgs and G.A.T.A.

"WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO!?!?" or as everyone else calls it "Bye Week"

October 4th and November 22nd. Circle those dates. If your wife says, "Hey honey my friend I haven't seen in 6 years and you've never met is getting married October 4th or November 22nd can you go with me?" you'd better say yes because that should meet your wedding quota for the Fall and you won't miss any Georgia games.

However, if you find yourself friendless, wifeless, etc... I thought I'd provide a few examples of things I like to do in the fall that could help fill the void (assuming you have ZERO interest in how your rivals are doing, in which case if you do, you'd better not miss their game!)

#1: Gatlinburg, TN
It's like Aspen, but with better junk food, and a ski lift that doesn't actually let you get off and ski back down.

Get your fill on taffy, candied apples, and corndogs while you take in the Ripley's Aquarium and Believe it or not! museum (that still has the same stuff you believed or didn't believe when you were 9 and went there with your parents). I will say the aquarium is pretty impressive but if you live anywhere near Atlanta you've got a much better one. Also if you're a Dukes fan there is a replica of Cooter's Garage complete with The General Lee sitting out in the parking lot.

Tell me what else you need...I DARE YOU!

#2 The Corn Maize at Cagle's Dairy

The last time I went there my wife and I stood in line for 30-40 minutes to get in. As we got to the ticket booth some teenager walks up and says, "Hey, old man (okay he didn't really call me old man), if I give you $40 will you buy tickets for me and my girlfriend so I don't have to wait in line?" Being the enterprising businessman that I am of course I took him up on it and before long Mrs. Mackalicious and I were roaming about the corn fields essentially free of charge.

Just a short drive up 75 from Atlanta, Cagles plows down sections of corn to create 3 unique corn mazes (enough already, we get the maize = corn joke). My best piece of advice to you would be DO NOT THROW THE FREE MAP THEY GIVE YOU AWAY! I had to use my cellphone as a flashlight to read it, but one of those mazes is so blasted huge we never would have found our way out and would have had to eat our way through the never-ending walls of corn, and we all know how corn goes straight through you!

#3. Oktoberfest in Helen, GA
If you want a beautiful drive through the mountains as the leaves are changing, this is for you. It also helps they serve booze by the gallons, but that only makes the colors that much more vivid. Anyway, if you decide to go, make sure you plan on arriving BEFORE 8am to get a parking place. Arrive early, grab a large breakfast at Hofer's, then spend the rest of the day with a beer in your hand a stupid green hat on your head.
It's a lot like tail-gating, but with more tubas

Either way, I know I enjoy it if nothing else for the killer hotdogs and funnel cakes. If you're going to make a weekend out of it I'd definitely suggest one of the wine-pairing dinners up at the Frogtown Winery too. For Georgia wineries (that aren't strawberry based) this is about as fine as you'll get. Just make sure you get a reservation in because the slots fill up quickly.

Feel free to leave ideas as to what you plan on doing for the 2 bye weeks we get this year. My hope is to enter the first one with a 5-0 record because we'll be needing our batteries charged up 110% for the following stretch.
