In case you were wondering, after beating Arkansas last night, the Dawgs move on in the SEC Tournament to play Vanderbilt.
According to U-Verse the game will be shown on Peachtree TV @ 9:45pm so stay up late, it's the weekend. Smile if you've beaten Vanderbilt once already this year*.
As the CFO of Pantsless Enterprises, LLC let me be the 36th-37th person to welcome our new basketball coach, straight from the desert, Mark Fox!
As I've said before, basketball ain't really my thang. However, if you're anything like me (catching headlines here & there about the coaching search) your first reaction was...who is this guy?!?
Info courtesy of AJC:
• Fox has been coach of the Wolf Pack for the past five seasons, where he was 123-43, including 21-13 this past season. He never won fewer than 21 games there and went 29-5 in 2006-07.
• Nevada competes in the Western Athletic Conference, and Fox’s teams won the league four of his five seasons. They finished second to Utah State this past season.
• The Wolf Pack played in the NCAA Tournament three straight seasons but not the past two. They reached the second round in 2005 and 2007.
• Fox’s teams played Georgia’s twice, winning both times. Nevada beat the Bulldogs 58-47 in Athens on Nov. 26, 2004 and 68-62 on Dec. 21, 2005.
Apparently he's a big guy from the mid-majors and hopefully he can bring some "W's" into Stegeman.
The big question now, is how long it take Terence Moore to scream racism since we hired a white coach...in 5, 4, 3, 2.....
I don't really follow college basketball all that much.
I don't really like Metallica either.
...actually, I effin' hate Metallica.
However, Guitar Hero is something I hold very near and dear to my heart.
Therefore, I think this is hilarious...until Metallica ruined it by sucking so hard.
Fortunately, Bobby Knight was able to throw something and completely redeem the watchablity factor. That said I'm still glad he's not coaching at UGA.
One more thing: The fact Coach Knight says "We're playing the Guitar Hero" like my Grandmother would say, "I'll search for it on the Google" is a small triumph for whoever snuck that into his script for this commercial. Chances are he was none the wiser.
Of course, I don't keep up with UGA basketball until the bandwagon begins to fill. This surprised me because I remember back when there were concerns of UGA basketball losing every single conference game this season. So far we've managed to squeeze a few wins out, a couple of which were against usual conference powerhouses (Florida, Kentucky).
I remember working on a project in Lexington, Kentucky when there were signs in the windows of local businesses to "Fire Tubby". I wonder how Minnesota is doing this season?
...and for a moment I thought the Seniors and upper-classmen are stepping up and talking to the younger guys on our team, trying to get them motivated for the Capital One Bowl and it's importance.
Who would have thought the week before the Georgia/Abuurn game the big story would be which school Scout's #1 prospect Derrick Favors will go play basketball?!?
I'll admit I'm as fairweather a UGA basketball fan as there is, but I jumped into the pool neck-deep during the SEC Championship earlier this year. Coach Felton hasn't really impressed many up until that incredible run, but I'm hoping if we land this kid the program can get over the hump to becoming a consistent contender in the NCAA and perhaps develop a solid following.
The comments section of AJC.com's story about Derrick Favors is loaded with Tech nerds trying to persuade Derrick their way, which I'm sure he is taking into consideration when making his decision. For those who don't know, he's between UGA, Tech, NC State, and Memphis. I'm not banking on this kid becoming a Dawg, but as I've said before, Athens being Athens could be a huge part of the decision. Favors is from South Atlanta so Tech might be a little too close to home (I know when I was picking schools I didn't want to be within earshot of my parent's). Memphis is a dump and Raleigh is too close to Mount Pilot where Barney and Gomer went to try and sell Miracle Salve to cure the mange on dogs. Athens is a great college town where there is just enough to do when you want to party, just without all the prostitutes and crack wandering around Tech's campus.
Finally lets look at our coaches.
Coach Felton looks like a cool guy who might throw back a 40oz with you while playing Miles Davis' Kind of Blue. I also assume he likes to play Halo, Madden, and NCAA on X-Box. Probably likes Family Guy, has a Playboy subscription, and wears Busted Tee's when he's off the court. Take notice Derrick, this guy is THE MAN! Derrick come here, let me show you this video of a dramatic chipmunk! It's the funniest 4 seconds on the internet I swear, I swear! Richt, cue it up again...AAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!1
On the Tech side of life, you've got Coach Paul Hewitt.
He's most likely into Warcraft and Second Life. Probably drives around in a mid-90's Honda Civic with cloth interior. I assume he would rather watch Battlestar Galactica and listen to Nickleback than go out and grab a beer. Also, I imagine he's into Asian women because that's all he's exposed to. It's only appropriate this file photo reminds me of a freeze frame from...
Who knows, if you're lucky I'll get my act together and post something about the Abuurn game sooner or later!
