Les Miles > M. Night Shyamalan

Over Twitter this morning we were discussing Les Miles and his brand of football. I'm a fan of ALL college football, but lets face it...LSU football under Les Miles is extremely entertaining and enjoyable for those of us without an emotional attachment to the Bayou Bengals.

Whether it's eating grass, mismanaging the clock, or no-look-pass "Field Goals" (h/t @BernieDawg) even as a die-hard Georgia fan I find Les Miles to be wildly entertaining in a Faces of Death style football sort of way.

This reminded me of the ending to last year's LSU/Tennessee game. I watched this game at The Golfsmith in Kennesaw while putting around with my father-in-law. In case you don't remember how this ended...here's a refresher.

LSU football (since Les Miles took the reigns back in 2005) has done what M Night Shyamalan has failed to do in every movie since The Sixth Sense, he gives the game a final plot twist that you don't expect. In every one of Shyamalan's films you go into it thinking, this is not how the story goes...something odd will happen at the end. But since football is such a conservative sport, even with a "Mad Hatter" type character in charge one is bound to think "Perhaps this time he'll play it safe and attempt a field goal for the win." ...Nope.

Now don't get me wrong, this isn't meant to be a Les Miles schmooze-fest. I'm merely pointing out that he brings a lot to the table when discussing the entertainment value of college football. LSU fans have an affinity for deep fryers at their tailgates, so when that much cholesterol mixes with stressful, intense sports management I'm sure Coach Miles has thrown the occasional corndog aficionado into cardiac arrest.

I find LSU to be the most watchable college football team that I could care less about. I root for them against the SEC East as long as they aren't playing Georgia, and if they want to pound Auburn on occasion I'll gladly cheer them on. Deep down, I think most of us would enjoy small amounts of crazy in our head coach. If it prevents all future field goals from the UCF 2 yardline, I'd take Timothy Leary drinking a Big Gulp of Mercury (Hg) rather than suffer through that frustration again.

Less that 75 days 'til football starts, oh how I long for thee...

Pantsless Preview: Part IIIII of IIIIIIIIII (10)

10.3.2009 - LSU (Home)

TIGAH' BAYTE TIGAH' BAYTE!!1

Who can tell me what's wrong with the premise of this video?

...if you guessed, bragging about your new Defense coaches then show clips of how good your old coach's defense was...then YOU WIN!

Now take a crack at this one....

...yep, you got it! Showing clips from your player's highschool highlight reel goes a loooooong way against scaring your SEC counterparts.

Now don't get me wrong, LSU is a very talented program. For the most part, you can always count on LSU to be in the running for the SEC West. They pull talent like Michael Jackson pulled Huggies...yep....went there.

But just like these videos show, you can't rationalize anything with their fanbase. Don't try to have a civilized conversation about SEC football with these people, it ain't happening. 9 times out of 10 it'll end with the words "Whup 'dat azz", "Tigah' Bait!", or "Justin Wilson coulda kicked Alton Brown's azz!".

To say LSU will be more of a challenge than last year would be an understatement. I doubt we'll see Jared Lee tossing pick 6's to our defense now that Jordan Jefferson has taken over as QB. Watching them dismantle Tech at the Peach Bowl last year was a thing of beauty (hopefully our staff was taking notes on how to defend "the perfect option").

To be perfectly honest, this preview is going to be relatively speculative. I'm not going into a ton of depth when it comes to how I view LSU's roster because I view our two camps as being in the same position. If anything, personnel-wise, I give the Dawgs a slight advantage especially due to QB experience and strength of our linemen. We both have superstar WRs (Brandon LaFell/AJ Green) split, LSU has advantage in the Runningback dept. with senior RB Charles Scott, and I'll give Georgia the advantage in our kicking game (LSU will be breaking in a new place kicker and punter).

Schedule-wise the Dawgs will continue their role as Sisyphus
(how's that for some culture, bitches?)

and picking up where Arkansas left off, the Bayou Bengles will be performing the part of Elle Woods carrying around her pink-clad chihuahua.

Going into the 2009 football season with all guns blazing against Pac-10 powerhouse...Washington? Then they host Vandy, UL Lafayette, and make a treacherous trip over to Starkville to play the Bulldogs of the West. Please note the Mississippi State trip will be treacherous, not the game...Starkville blows.

As if you didn't know already we've faced Okie State, South Cackalacky, Arkansas, and Arizona State in the same time-frame. Also, as you are aware I predict UGA to fall prey to the Razorbacks and come into the LSU homegame with a 3-1 record. This is why you might be surprised I pick Georgia to knock off LSU on October 3rd.

WHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAA??!?!?!

That's right, I think we'll drop the Arkansas game because we'll be tired and get caught with our pants down trying to moonwalk through Fayetteville. But it's the same frustrating situation where we underestimate the opponent and don't play with the fire we need to win. However, LSU is a name we know to take seriously. We have them at home, this will be Jordan Jefferson's first start in a loud SEC opponent's stadium, and we'll have nothing to lose. LSU will still be undefeated and riding a media wave of monstrous victories over mediocre opponents.

Rennie Curran dreams about two things:
-peace in Liberia
-running QBs attempting a passing game

Jordan Jefferson gets a bitter-dose of reality on his first trip to Athens as the LSU Tigers fall to our Dawgs in a shootout, 20-17 UGA.

Next we take a trip to visit The Kiffer in Knoxville. I think the only thing more difficult than writing the preview for this game would be avoiding the easy cliches that run rampant like 13 year olds with football scholarships in Knoxvegas.

The Gambler

Darrell Gamble made me happy today. Knowshon made me happy today. Matthew Stafford made me happy today. Blair Walsh made me happy today. For the most part, the Dawgs made me happy today.

If you want to see be bitch and moan, the only area of gameplay you'll find it was in our defense. Our impecable run defense COULD. NOT. STOP. LSU's Charles Scott. Other than that and giving up a couple of garbage TDs, I'm satisfied with the win.

I'm not as happy with the win as much as I'm happy with the offense. Our offense has been dragging it's butt on the grass like my dog trying to pass one of my wife's hairs. We finally clicked. We finally had a solid gameplan. Mike Bobo, as Gary Danielson said over and over again, was having the time of his life in Death Valley. Putting 52 points up in LSU's stadium (which is widely considered one of the most difficult places to play) makes me really happy. Also the 5 Jack Daniels (straight up...I'm off caffiene) made me pretty damn happy too. Blair Walsh breaking the kicking curse was awesome, and I can't blame him for missing that 54 yarder.

Hear me now and believe me later, next week's Cocktail Party will be a game for the ages. My pessimism is at a drinker's low right now, but I'm predicting a Georgia win by 10. I reserve the right to change that number daily as the day draws closer, but seeing Georgia playing with some offensive authority makes my confidence go "Yay!".

I will most likely regret this later, but I'm throwing it out there that if Georgia wins next weekend, I'll be running around my neighborhood sans pants with pictures to come.

But thank you Dawgs for the win tonight. I wanted to believe we would win, but deep down in my heart I wasn't convinced. We just had our season changing game, I feel much better about Florida next weekend.

Time to throw some Bagel Bites in the oven and ready myself for Bama/Tennessee. I'll get some more stuff up next week leading into the Worlds Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, it's too big of a game to let work take the lead like last week did. Go Dawgs, and F#$% Florida!

WOOOOoooo!!!1!!one!1!!!January!!!1!!Texas Longhorns!!!1!!!juan!

I love you Darrell Gamble

A Few Quick Notes

I would say thank God it's Friday but unless I get busy I'm gonna be working on Saturday. So I doubt there will be massive amounts of posting today, but if nothing else take comfort in knowing I'm a contributing member of society today and not some lazy bum who does nothing but spend all day cruising around the "blogosphere".

First off, I'd like to thank Auburn for having a down year. It's times like this where future Mackalicious will look back and think "How in the world did we make it through this schedule?". Then I'll remember 2 of the big name teams we played were having down years (lookin' at you Rocky Top) taking some of the weight off. But if we make it through these next two games with no more than 1 loss we'll be in good shape for a quality bowl game (but if I have to choose the loss by all means let it be to LSU). I say once we get back from Jacksonville our home stretch will be much easier than the middle stretch we completed. Looking at it now, Tech looks to be a pretty big game...who'd a thunk it?

Secondly, did anyone else catch Hines Ward on Pardon the Interruption yesterday? Sporting his Georgia hat and dismissing notions that his is a dirty blocker.

The interview was pretty funny especially when he pulled out a copy of the NFL policy on "putting bounties on players". Check it out if you can find it...I couldn't though.

Finally, if I don't get back on later to post anything else, know this. I think the LSU game is going to be our make or break game. If we go into Death Valley and take care of business, play like the game our guys were recruited to play, and leave with a solid performance we'll win and take the next one in Jacksonville. My fear is that we're going to go into this game like it's just another SEC game and play a mediocre game, with numerous mistakes, and penalize ourselves into a loss...heh heh, penalize ourselves.

But seriously we've got to have the breakout game that has become known as the trademark "Turning Point" of Coach Richt's seasons. I think LSU got blown out by Florida because they weren't the better team. I think we should be able to man-handle the tigers because we are the better team, whether we decide to perform is up to the players. My pick? Dawgs 32, LSU 18. Go Dawgs!

(With all due respect, Justin Wilson was the man as far as chefs go. I remember watching his cooking shows when I was a kid on GPTV just because I thought his accent was hilarious. I doubt he would have made it on the Food Network in today's world, I hear they look down on eating squirrel.)

LSU Season Recap Thus Far: LOL Cajun Perspective

As I've stated before, I can't stand LSU fans. For all intents and purposes (or "intensive purposes" for you Red Batonians) they serve their purpose well. Being obnoxious to the point of opposing fans feeling threatened definitely creates an intimidating atmosphere Death Valley has become known for. Known for their complete lack of humility I chose to highlight the LSU season thus far from a cajun's perspective. Just to prepare you, the cajun language written out is actually very similar to LOL CAT so put your translating pants on.
